Garrett z link or Official Racer 2 setup?

I'm debating whether to get either the garrett z link or official Makro Racer 2 wireless setup.

Has anyone here got some experience in using the Makro Racer 2 wireless dongle and headphones?

I know the Z Link is awesome, but not seen any reviews on the Racer 2 version.

Any lag?
Build quality?

Really appreciate some help and info guys.

cheers
Matt

I'm debating as well.
I'm leaning towards z lynk because I can use it on my tesoros as well and I can use my killer b wasps.
The way I see it they will cost 120 and work for one of my detectors and 2 if I get the Impact.
If I get the zlynk it works for every detector I have and will have later

work great! Very comfortable yet stable, not floppy. Nice, clear audio response, and there is absolutely no lag-time.

I wish they were available for my four Nokta FORS CoRe & Relic models as I do enjoy them. I am using a borrowed set of the most recent wireless headphones for my Nokta Impact and they are just as enjoyable as used on the Makro Racer 2. No issues with build quality, either.

After finding absolutely stacks and stacks of reviews on the Zlink and NONE on the Racer 2 wireless setup...i'm opting for the Zlink option.

mind made up...wahooo:bouncy:

Z-Lynk works great on my Racer 2. I also use XP Deus $20 foldable headphones that are on the ear type and the cross band is behind my head. They are not near as good as Sunray Gold Pro's but now I can wear a large hat for extra sun protection. If traffic noise is too high then the Sunray's have to be used.

Well there's probably a reason for that.
The z lynk works on all detectors and the makro are only for two but recently also the impact.
So more reviews are normal for a device that works on all your detectors.

But for that reasoning I think I'll opt for the zlynk as well. Works on all detectors and use your own phones that are your favorite.

I'm really happy with the Racer Wireless. So happy in fact, I've bought a second pair just to make sure I have a backup. I've got the SunRay Pro Gold and the Killer B Wasps but they don't get used very often now that I have the Makro sets. For me, the drawback to the Garrett system is that it's more expensive than the Makro headphones and after spending approx. $135.00, for the Z, you still need to spend the money on a quality set of headphones. The Makro set is quality, lightweight, fit well and are not so large that they cover your entire ear like the Killer B's. In warmer climates the Makro set is really nice. With the Garrett system you have a larger dongle that you have to rubberband to the detector and a cord that has to be plugged in. Then you need the receiver stuck in you pocket or fastened to you person somewhere, with your headphone cord running from the headphones to the receiver. Not really what I'd call "wireless" There's wires running everywhere, just not from the detector to your head.

I hear what you mean Tom.
From that point of view it makes sense.
But for me already owning the wasps and being able to use the system on all wins in my book.

I will most likely still buy the makro headphones, but at 120, I can only use them on my racer. Fory other 10 I'm still tethered.

But for most people with just the racer or impact or gold racer or a combo of them it's a great buy.
Just for me 135 for all my detectors works.

As I said, if you haven't already bought expensive headphones it's the best way to go. But after buying the wasps only to have them site is sad lol.

My Wasps and Pro Gold headphones still get used on my White's and Minelab detectors, just not on my Racers or Impact.

Definitely like my Racer 2 headphones:
Comfortable fit
Earmuffs do not smother your ears
Light weight
No issues pairing up
No lag issues

I also have a Racer 2 and a Fors Relic and use the Z-lynk. It works absolutely awesome with both machines! I only use earbuds that loop behind the ear and really like the sound quality of them too. Hope this helps!

Whoops, just spent my cash on an action cam .....so Zlinks will have to wait a week or 2.

Matt

I'm sure the Zlink works fine, but it's not really a true wireless solution....now you have more cords and cables to contend with then before. BTW the R2 wireless phones are great, one of the best detector accessory purchases I've ever made.

I agree the r2 setup would be great for my racer 2.
But I won't have any solution for all my other detectors :-(
For cost reasons I'm going with the z-lynk
