Garrett Vs Minelab

Grandad

New member
What a day yesterday. A Minelab buddy and I with my Garrett 2500 took off work to detect. I've been trying to figure out the differences from the 2500 compared to my CXIII. I like both machines and have been a little envious of the finds the Minelab buddy has been getting. I had a little talk with my machine and yesterday pulled out 2 silver dimes (1964 and 1960) and a 1944 quarter alone with 18 clad quarters, 20 dimes and 12 pennies. Oh, yeah his Minelab found about the same amount of clad and a couple rings but no silver coins. The contest goes on...

I hunted a lot with a friend of mine who used an explorer. He found alot of silver with it.
I bought sovereign and liked quite alot (I had always been a garrett user) I then
upgraded to an explorer It was a really good machine and I found some coins but not gobs
of old silvers like alot of other people. I had alot of trouble with the nulling in iron and the tones theres just to many. So now I use the GTI 2500 I dont go to the beach with it
but I like it just the same. I think the differance is more about what works for you than
the name on the machine. every detector has its good and bad points.

Sounds to me like neither one of you will ever get bragging rights over the other. Both of you seem to be getting your fair share, it's just who puts their coil over what first.

Hi Garrett Folks
I'm the Minelab buddy and yes he really gave a spankin. He didn't tell you that he found all the silver before I even found my first coin. For a hunted out spot we sure had a great time.I haven't found that many coins in one aera for a long time. when He found those silver coins right off the bat, I thought we are in for a good hunt. After all that diggin my back and leggs are paying for it today.Next time Grandad look out expII al is coming after ya!!!!!!!
God Bless
Al

I don't care what machine U buy or use, from a Bounty Hunter to an Explorer II, if the target aint under the coil, you aint going to find it. Also if your huntin an area where there aint no silver coins, then you won't find any either.

I agree, it comes down to personal likes and dis-likes when it comes to detectors. I think what happens are people think that the higher dollar machine, the more depth they will get, but that isn't true. I believe, from the machines that I have used over time that there might be an inch of depth either way serperating the machines, which isn't enough to be concerned about.

What I look for is a machine which has good pinpointing, good target seperation, weight, ease of use and is it fun to use or not. But if I'm not finding the targets, its not the fault of the machine as long as its working properly with fresh batteries.

Yeah about the only difference between a $250 machine and a $1000 machine is the guy on the other end of it.
