Garrett users in NC?

I'm thinking about trading my DFX for a Garrett (too complicated).
Does the target sizing on the 2500 - 1350 really work?
How does the user operate it?
I can size on my DFX buy just listening carefully while pinpointing.
Does the Garrett just provide an automatic way of doing this?
Can someone with experience with both brands explain/compare Garrett to Whites?
Anyone in NC want to get together and compare notes?
Thanks!
Dave

Where about in NC do you live? If you are near Charlotte, I'd be happy to get together with you and show you how the GTI 2500 / 1500 and GTP 1350 work in comparing it to your current detector.

Whoops!
Sorry Andy, I'm in Durham. I should have specified. If you're ever up my way, feel free to drop me a line.

Of course with most detectors after experience you can tell the basic size of a target..GTI gives you a A,B.C,D,E segment on the bottom of the screen that fills up to gives you the size. Takes a bit to completely center for accurate readings, but unlike the DFX is much more user friendly without lot of extra facets to set up. Of course many use the DFX well and not about to start a detector war. Certainly the imaging is not a fixed science but is helpful in determining gold rings versus tabs and of course that dreaded beer can.As far as the 1350 imagine it works similiar but have not used one.2500 is a bit bulky and might look into the 1500 as it works well also and is lighter and less bulky with a smaller price tag..

Used to live just outside of Mooresville late 80's to 96 or so. Our family misses it. Really is gods country. Best people I've ever met.

I have three sons who live in Raleigh and we visit as often as we can. We are in the process of moving from NJ to Jacksonville,FL but will still head up to NC to visit our children and grandchildren and would be happy to hunt with you when I visit.

The 2500 is very user friendly and imaging is simple after a little practice. When you pinpoint and center the target the size is given on the display, along with depth and ID.
The 1350 works a little different and determines a target's size by large-medium-small. Once you hit a target you scan the target within a 14-inch parameter and the size is given on the display. You do not get this reading while pinpointing as the 1350 only has one receiving coil whereas the GTI's have two. Hope this helps.

I live right outside mooresville. I live in statesville.. I had 2 garretts i just sold my 2500. where r u living now?

Dave:
I live in Rocky Mount, NC. I've been trying to find a decent dig here, but all the probable spots...post office torn down about 75 years ago...county fair site under lock and key, prevents me from hunting where I'd like. Good luck.

Dave,
I have used both machines (DFX & 2500) and wrote articles about my experience with each. Yes the imagining works and, because of the imagining, the pinpointing on the Garrett is the most accurate I have seen. The learning curve on the 2500 is not as steep. The most common mistakes that folks make who have trouble operating the 2500 are: Not reading the instructions first; Having the sensativity turned up too high; Not reading the instructions; Scrubbing the coil on the ground; And, not reading the instructions. It would not suck to own both detectors. The DFX is pretty sweet on the beech.
Good luck,
Mark

Bruce,
I'm concluding that most of my DFX woes are due to poor site selection.
The fairgrounds sounds interesting. Have you approached the owner?
Dave

Who do you think I learned it from, Bill? <img src="/metal/html/wink.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=";)">
