Garrett Ultra GTA 350?

Just bought a Garrett 350 for $25 (and it works) for my mom. I know this is an older model but I was hoping it would be a decent "starter" MD for her to get her feet wet(especially for the price). Anyone on here had any experience with this model? I looked at the manual on the Garrett site and everything seems pretty straight forward to me but I have owned a few MDs through the years whereas my mom has only seen me use my GTP 1350 with some explanation from me. Is the 350 too complicated for her because I want it to be fun and simple for her and I don't live that close to her to be able to give her any "reminder hands on" help. Believe me if I could afford it, I would just buy her an Ace 150 or 250 but with only $25 invested, i figured why not?
 
I've never owned or used the GTA 350, but it seems like a fine machine and a good starter unit. Here's a link to the field test report on Lost Treause magazine online.

I have owned and used (hundreds of hours) a GTA 350 for more than 12 years. I am still using it. Great coin machine. I would recomend getting her a sniper coil as soon as possible. She will enjoy that immensly. A lot easier to use. Later on she should have a Garrett Pro Pointer for even easier usage and faster retreival time.

I have never had a problem with mine in all these years.

These usually sell used on Ebay for $150 - $200, when you can find them there. $25 is a great price. I would fork over $100 for a used one in a heartbeat. HH and the best of luck to your Mom. JackinAustin
 
I used one for 5 years, worked fine, sold it bout 10-12 yr ago, it's still workin fine, never a minutes problem, mine ran 85% accurate on coin ID's from day one, simple easy and work good,:detecting:
 
ramairnut congrats on the fine buy for your mom,and to think i thought i just made a good purchase on a gta 350 off ebay suppose to have never been used for 81.00 but you have me beat good for you.I bought mine hoping the wife may want to get in the hobby as well and thought like you that this model seems simple to use and great buys for the money i think...Enjoy it and the best of luck to both you and your mom with the garrett GTA 350...Im looking forward to getting mine as welll...Markmac
 
I owned a 350 about 137 years ago but don't remember much about it. As I recall it's pretty basic and easy to learn and use so if Mom follows the manual she should have no problems. I found a lot of stuff with mine. I can't remember when they came out but it had to be 20 years or more ago in the eighties.

Thanks for posting the test. Helped me refrsh my memory of the 350. I thought it came out before 1994 but then when you have used a kazillion detectors it's hard to keep track.

Thanks for all the posts! I have aleady talked to Garrett about some small parts that need replaced and they are sending them out for free.It only needs the battery holders and battery compartment doors(if the owner can't find them LOL). I also asked Garrett about getting an updated coil for it and they will sell me one for %40 off with me sending in the stock one. So if my math is still good ,the investment to this point should only be around $100. I really hope my mom enjoys it.She has always talked of wanting her own MD. When I took my GTP 1350 over to her place last fall, she was very impressed how far MDs have come since she last tried to use one.I told her to use this one for a while and then sell it and use the money towards an ACE 250. I think that would be a perfect MD for her; just can't afford it right now but someday.........I am just glad she will be MDing. I truly love the hobby.Now if the ground would just thaw out! LOL
 
Hey that's great. I'm glad Garrett still has parts for it. What a lucky break. Hope Mom does well with it. From what I can recall I found a lot of goodies with mine.
