Garrett Tip of the day....

I went hunting yesterday with my buddy. He got my Ace 250 and i was using the GTAx 1250 with 4.5 sniper coil.We were looking for coins around an old house.
I called him over to check my signal because i got a nice belltone with ID right on.He scanned over the spot and didn't get a clear reading.I dug a 1956 silver dime.I told him he just learned what target separation is and i got the better target id because i used the smaller coil.I switched to all metal mode and showed him the trash close to the spot where i found the dime.
I read somewhere that Mr. Garrett said Target ID is 90% right on a Garrett detector....he is right.. if you use the right coil size for your type of hunting.
If you use the 4.5 coil on the GTAx/GTI detector make sure to run sensitivity at max.
You can still pull coins at 6 to 8 inches.

Andy

That's a great idea with the tip of the day.....keep them coming

Indeed a small coil can produce where others can't..Certainly hurts the coverage but picks between the trash...Once dug a junk ring at 2 inches and went over the hole after I replaced the plug and got a high coin reading at 6 inches..Out came a 1827 large cent..So indeed target masking to the top, bottom or to the side can make one miss that good target.

Everybody loves tips. Even though a lot of us knew this tip, it's always good to get reinforcement, and you reminded me that I've got some areas where my standard coil didn't work well that need to be revisited with the 4.5 incher. HB

I've been using a 5x10 elliptical coil with my 2500 in trashy areas. I seem to get better target separation but less depth. Would I do better with a smaller concentric coil?
Thanks,

What kind of depth are you getting with the 5x10? Good target separation counts more than depth in many cases. If you can't find it doesn't matter how deep or shallow it is.
Bill

The 5x10 is a DD coil and should get less depth than the standard coil over low mineral ground but more depth over high mineral ground.
Target separation is better with the DD coil.
For heavy trash around old houses the 4.5 coil won't give you more depth but even better separation.

Andy

I believe the 5x10 Scorcher is a concentric, The only 5x10 DD's I know of are made for the Scorpion and the Infinium. If you pinpoint with the front tip of the coil then you have a DD because there is no receiving coil inside a DD for pinpointing.

I think the best depth I've gotten thus far with the 5x10 was about 5" on a clad quarter. I probably shouldn't be including this - might give myself more competition - but the 5x10 is a demon in competition hunts! Slightly better ground coverage than the 9.5 imaging coil, lighter weight, as good or better pinpointing, much better target separation and more than adequate depth for the targets normally found in competition hunts.

Well then, the 5x10 MUST be a DD coil by that definition, cause all the pinpointing is right off the tip - front or back.

Indeed it is.
