Garrett Sea Hunter Mark II

New member
i purchased a new sea hunter from Kellyco and received it this past friday. i should also state that i am new to the PI machines. That being said one of two things are going on here, either A) im more incompetant then i ever imagined or B) there is something wrong with this unit. i also got an MP3 Pro Digital detector as well now the MP# Pro picks up any and everything yet all i get from the Sea Hunter is a bunch of noise that doesnt seem to be actually pointign me to anything. ive tried multiple different setting combos and it yields no difference in the detectors abilities. i spanned various denominations of change along with a gold ring and some silver pieces. the MP3 picked up all the sea hunter gave no indications of any. SOMEONE PLEASE help me!!! is it me or the machine?!?

Its gotta be you...something simple, take a breath and try it OUTSIDE again...away from anything else...like maybe the still turned on MP laying there...you will be fine! Its a great machine from a reputable company, so lets just make sure its NOT operator error...man, we've all been there before...

I've heard they really don't like EMI. Are you near a wireless router, power lines, etc?

thanks to those of u that responded, heres the latest. contacted Kellyco and they referred me to Garrett. Guy at Garrett seems to think theres something wrong with the coil, so they r sending me a replacement which will arrive two days from today. hopefully that is the issue and i dont have to return the entire unit and wait, banging my head against the wall, until a new one arrives. (waiting the 3 days for a new coil is about killing me lol....and its only been one day so far....yikes)

on a side note i was actually rather impressed with the MP3 Pro machine. from all i read about it it was going to be less then useless on the beach but it was actually doing quite well so long as i stayed away form the water and extremely wet sand. found mostly trash and two modern coins, but hey it worked where i wasnt expecting it to so thats a plus. i only got it to have one for my 10 yr old son to come along with me glad to see it will actually produce something for him.

I think that there is something wrong with your unit. It should be responding to all targets. Garrett will look after you. :)

As u said, Garrett was stellar!! they bent over backwards to get me straightened out. Shipped me a new machine.......and off i went! Packed up my two sons(7 & 10) and headed off to find our "fortunes" scouring the beach and a local swimming hole. There was a bit of chill in the air but our detecting fever kept us warm. As the day wore on the air grew warm as well and it was a great time with the kids out in the sun shine, which after being cooped up all winter was twice the blessing. The machine worked wonderfully, picked up a target within 30 seconds of turning it on, it was a dime. Not an old one, 2000, but it confirmed that i now had a properly functioning detector. Further proof was to come as by the end of the day we found about enough rusty nails to build a house if it weren't for all the rust! i had the elimination @ 0 so it was expected. It also turned up two pennies, one of which was a 1945 wheat, so that was pretty cool. My 10 yr old promptly called dibs, and added it to his little coin collection. So all in all im thrilled with the Sea Hunter now that i have one that works. Thank you to all who gave me advise and steered me straight. I hope to be adding many more posts as my time detecting increases hence increasing my potential for finding things worth writing about. lol

Happy Hunting To All !!!!!!!!
