garrett sea hunter mark II

Hi everyone, I have a chance to buy a garrett sea hunter mark II from a guy on Craigslist. The drawback is that he does not have the headphones for it. Is there any way I can check that it is in good operating condition without the headphones? Also, his asking price is $200. Is that a good deal if it is in good working condition? Thanks in advance for any info you can offer. Lisa

Hello Lisa, that is a very good price, IF the unit works. There is no way to tell, unless you have headphones though. What you could do, is buy it and ship it off to Garrett for a full check-out and have them put headphones back on the unit at the same time. In good working order, Mark IIs sell for around $400-$500 used. If you are buying it, because it is advertised as a discriminating PI, think again, buy something else. It is a PI and all-metal. The unit's threshold will rise as waves pass over the coil too. It would be a good starter unit though and we used them our 1st couple of season and owned 3 of them. If you DO buy the unit, send me a PM and I'll tell you how to set it up for peak performance.
