Garrett Scorpion Stinger Alternative.

Sven

Well-known member
Everyone is noticing how well the Stinger is finding items..........using Garrett's older 1980's Technology that is found
in the Garrett Groundhog Metal Detector, in a lighter weight housing and more comfortable armrest rod-handle set-up.

So what if your on a budget, the cost of a new or used unit is out of your price range?
Isn't it a viable alternative to buy an older Garrett Groundhog ADS?
Or the following detectors that have used Garrett's Groundhog circuitry?
Gold Mountain Boss?
D-tex Money King or CK20?
I think there may be a couple of other units also, just can't think of them.

I am currently using the D-tex SK50 which is 5khz and can swap coils with the Garrett Deepseeker Master Hunter.

At one point the Garrett Techs were using the D-tex coils on their Master Hunter and Groundhogs, as they added extra depth to the
Garrett units.

Hey Sven:wave:Cool pix!:clapping:I love those old detectors!:thumbup:Thanks for sharing!:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)

Sven, I have been wondering this myself for some time. I wish you had have gotten more responses to this thread as I would have loved to read the opinions of others pertaining to your question on an alternative. I specifically was wondering about the older Ground Hog machines.

Those older Ground Hog machines are cool. I've got a Coin Hunter VLF/TR Ground Hog. I swing it around every now and again just for fun, but I pretty much just baby it and keep it in storage 'cause it's vintage. I beat the heck out o' them Scorps though. They take a lickin' and keep on tickin'. Side by side with the old Ground Hogs and Scorps, they probably about the same, but the Scorps can handle the bad ground much better. Much better manual ground balance control IMHO (can be more finely adjusted. Just my $.02 worth.:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)
