Garrett repairs...

Well I've had my 550 for 4 months and I already need to send it back for repairs. I take care of it, but I use it a lot! The plastic cover on the pinpoint button is screwed up, and I can see the circuit under it. As much as I try to pinpoint, it WILL NOT stay on for even a fraction of a second. I'm bummed to send it, because it may only be a matter of weeks before there is 3 feet of snow, but I can't use it like this. The folks in Texas at Garrett said they will fix it under warranty, and were good to deal with.

My question is for people that have had to send units to be repaired, how long does it usually take?

Here's what is in store VERY soon:

:usaflag:Not sure about detectors, but I had my Pro-pointer back in 8 days from the time I shipped it. Then again they just gave me a new one instead of fixing mine. They have excellent service, and you can expect it to be back in your hands long before you're anticipating.

10-14 days for me usually.

Alan

And it depends on how busy they are and their backlog. Sometimes the repairs or replacements happen almost overnight. It's the luck of the draw.

Well tomorrow will be a week since I sent it away...can't wait to get it back! The Garrett guy on the phone was very nice and helpful. Meanwhile I have been using my brother's Teknetics machine, and I haven't really had much luck with it. It seems to not go very deep, and I'm having a hard time deciphering what it's telling me...especially missing that belltone lol! Then I thought "I can't judge this detector too harshly after only spending 10 or 12 hours using it.". Sooo tonight I tried it again, and things started making more sense. My first coin was a 1912 Canadian dime, about 5 inches deep. The next coin was a 1945 Mercury dime. Not bad for the first two coins on a hunt! Followed those up with 33 cents in clad. I guess the conclusions I have come to are: everybody probably has a soft spot for their first detector, and you shouldn't judge a brand without actually putting time into learning how it works! My final conclusion is that I love my 550 and am counting the days till I get it back all fixed up!:detecting:

I'm just curious which teknetics model were you using? One of the newer ones or one of the originals? And what model was it? And lastly were do you live to get that kind of snow so early ?

I bet things are sort of crazy about now at Garrett with two new model detectors in the works.

I sent in my Grand Master Hunter last winter for a bunch of fixes including a cracked case. They turned it around in about 10 days and did not cost as much as I thought it would.

Very good service on a 25 year old machine. This why they are the best in my book.

I was using the new Teknetics Gamma 6000. I hated it at first, but after I used it for a bit I started to like it. I can't believe how light it is!

I live in "The Great White North" lol. I remember only one Halloween in the last thirty years when there was no snow.
