Garrett question

On two different detector tests they rate the 550GTAX as getting better depth in air and ground than anything else up to the 2500GTI,how can this be? I just ordered a new 1250GTAX and I'm begining to wonder if I made the right choice.
I asked this question a few days ago and only got one reply, so here it is again. Mike

First of all where did you read these tests and by who and where were they conducted? I field tested the 550 way back ( test is at losttreasure.com ) and it might go as deep as the 1250 but not more.

Don't ever base a detector purchase on claimed depth as it's all pie in the sky. Depth is based on to many variables and there is much more to detecting than depth. 99% of all dropped coins are within the reach of most machines out there. Depth is hype for sales and bragging sessions. I've found coins from the 1700's at two inches and clad at 8-10 inches in the same area. There is no universal machine that will perform the same every where. And a lot has to do with operator experience and familiarity with his machine. Try your machine for awhile before you pass judgement.
