Garrett ProPointer

I am a pit puzzled about the sound/ volume on the ProPointer I finally decided on. It came a few days ago and right out of the box soon as I turned it on I realized it was indeed pretty loud. For me to hear it sound off was great because my hearing is pitifully bad! Well, the volume didn't last but a few seconds and it began to sound muffled, like I read happens when the speaker gets mud or dirt, or your finger in /over the speaker. Well I could understand that but I was still just sitting in my ole easy chair playing with the thing and right off the volume I first heard was gone, and it ain't come back. Battery is still plenty good.I was wondering if anyone else has had problems or the same experience with their Pro Pointer?I feel it could just be my bad hearing playing tricks on me but I can't really believe that when the ProPointer volume really caught my attention when I first turned it on and was trying it. I knew that I would mostly be depending on the Vibrator feature to do my pinpointing since by time I got the thing down in the dirt my ears probably not be doing me much good any way, even if I decided to slide my head phones off. When first hearing what great volume it had I was thinking "Wow these are Great!" I will probably decide to send them back and see if there is anything wrong with them or if my ears really are playing tricks on me.I tried another new Battery and nothing changed. LOL, I do want to start out with the real deal, and nothing less. Shucks! SOS all over again but I sure hope not! HH Y'all , Charlie

Take the battery knob off and push down on the battery and turn it on. If the pin-pointer comes on with pressure on the battery then you have the same problem I did. If that is the case put a thin piece of rubber or cardboard inside the cap and that should solve the problem. Hope this helps. HH

I have noticed my propointer doesn't seem to sound as loud as it was when I bought it new almost 2 years ago. I can still hear it ok but when I read about people complaining about it being too loud I start thinking mine might be defective or something. My propointer is not loud by any means.

Yes, I had to do that too to get good contact with the battery connector posts. I used cereal box cardboard torn to size. Works reliably like a champ now, acted intermittent before.

I put one of those plastic rings you get from the spindle of a package of DVD/CDs. I read amout someone putting a coin in theirs, and I thought about those plactis rings I've collected, rings which I've always wondered what purpose I could make one useful for. Tons of things will do the job though. martin
