Garrett Pro Pointer causing MXT interference.

I recently upgraded to the MXT PRO, and notice that when I turn on and use my Pro Pointer, I hear some interference. Is anybody else having this problem.

It is too common, probably because of the broad band signal used. Many cope by setting your detector arms length away from you when you set it down.

I have the same with my pistol probe. As mentioned above, I just move the detector out a little farther. :beers:

Ok. Thanks for the reply. I'll just set it down farther away from me. No big deal.

Hey littfam, I deal with this minor problem by turning off my MXT regularly once I've picked up the signal with the pro pointer. The PP is a capable detector by itself and I never have to turn my MXT back on to locate a target once the PP has the scent. It makes it a lot easier to hear intermittent chirps from the PP when a target is at the far end of it's detecting range (3"+ in my soil) my batteries are lasting forever also. It's a great tool to verify that a coin-sized object is actually being detected or not at the depth the MXT is reading in pinpoint. Try it and see how you like it. JMHO

As I hunt in Relic Mode almost exclusively, I didn't know there was any interference until I saw it mentioned in the forums. Don't know if it's just my machine, but in Standard Relic Mode, Trigger in centre position, I do not have any interference unless I get too close to the coil. But yeah, in any other mode, the ProPointer does interfere a lot more. Wonder if it can be temporarily eliminated by either lowering the gain or threshold while digging. Will have to try it on my next hunt.

hi floks havent posted befor i got mxt and just got pro pointre and had that same thing happen thought grate spent 150 bucks and it is crose talking bumer.but i began to see a patern i pick up the puls of the pro pointer in my head phones when i turn on pro pointer and it is sending a singal that there is target there be for the pro pointer beeps or viberts and will contuie to increse before the pointer will beep or viberta it sounds strang but cheak it out.i think you might just like that.i do.maybe i am nuts.

That's why I wouldn't have anything but the DX-1 SunRay pinpointer. It's up there in the "perfect" range. HH, Nancy

I agree, Nancy! I've used mine so much(cause of problem is debatable) that the wiring got a break/short right at the probe and began giving the overload signal. It was out of warranty so I inspected it closer myself and found that the cable tensioner crimp built into the plastic nut is designed with sharp teeth that cut right through the outter insulation and through the wire insulation and caused 2 of the wires to short. I simply loosened this 'nut' and slid the cable a 1/4" further into the probe and slid a thin strip of rubber between the nut and the new section of cable where it tightened onto to prevent future issues. My DX-1 now has a new lease on life! I nearly cried to the thought of metal detecting without a DX-1. lol

The minelab 25 pro pinpointer does the same thing. Only the white's bulleye pinpointer has not interfered with my mxt pro.

Amen to that Aaron. I don't even want to think about NOT hunting without my DX-1. You did good. Yes, a new life given to your pinpointer. Love it!!!! HH, Nancy

I know this is older, but my compadre has the same problem with the pp. Both run at 12kHz! No problems with my 6t..

just do what i do- use a whites bullseye 2 the MXT pinpoints so close- really no need for one except in muddy dirt and very tiny targets in the grass roots. my friend has a propointer and a dfx and i use the mxt and we notice interference from his. not so with the Bullseye-- the genetic match for the MXT! but a Sunray is on my list......

I now have the sunray probe on mine and what an excellent tool. It not only has no interferance, but if you have iron and a coin in the same hole, you can tell which is which. I cannot say enough about it.

I too have learned to just live with a little interference , and minimize it by keeping a little distance between the two.
I almost always use my mxt pro in two tone relic mode, so it isn't nearly as chatty as is in coin and jewelry. Most of the time I can max the gain out and have very little interference with my pin pointer. I have to agree with an earlier statement that you can hear a slight sound in your headphones as the pin pointer nears the target, which is beneficial to pinpointing when there is a lot of noise around the area, or when your pin pointer speaker is caked with mud!

I don't have the Garrett ProPointer I have an old TinyTech pinpointer from the late nineties. It too causes interference with my MXT Pro when in C&J mode. My solution is to flip the switch to relic mode when I set the detector down to recover the target and the interference in lessened.

I won't have to put up with it much longer. My new Sunray DX-1 will be here on 7/3 and the TinyTech will be relegated to a backup roll.

Can't wait for the new White's hand held pinpointer to come out :) That will surely take care of all the intereference:whites::thumbup:

funny thing i have a cheap bountyhunter m.d. i cut the handle down on for my kids and when it gets within 5 feet of my mxt pro it goes crazy ,i can tell when there behind me because the mxt sounds like its about to blow the speaker.my pin pointer and other people i m.d. with dont cause interferance only that old one of the kids
