Garrett Pro pointer acting strange

Waterdog

Well-known member
I had my Garrett Pro pointer out for a spin today and it kind of busses but quit beeping. I had a back up in the vechile and used that for the rest of the hunt.
Can Garrett fix these or is theresomething I can do with it?

That must have happened when you threw it across the soccer field to me:shrug:. Dam that was a good pin pointer, all beat up but still works fine nothing can take a beating like that :garrett:Garrett Pin Pointer. Good thing you have a backup, no more throwing. LOL

You didn't mention whether it's still under warranty, but, yes, they can be repaired - give Garrett a call. I think they'll give you a quote if it's not covered. I had one that was under warranty and the on/off button stopped working. I hit it with the canned air and gave it a squirt of PB Blaster (penetrating lubricant) - bad idea. By the time Garrett got it, they said the insides had melted. They were nice enough to sell me one at cost, though. (the can did say it was safe for electrical switches...)

My Pro Pointer acted up. Garrett simply sent me a new one.

I have had this problem with mine as well. Im primarily a minelab guy so naturally got the pro find 25 by minelab. Well truth is truth my brand or not the pro find was worse. Falses like crazy just beeps and beeps. One thing I think that was happening on Garrett was battery was failing to contact internal connectors consistently. What I did was tore napkin ( you could be a lot more creative then this but its what I had) and stuffed it into end cap screwed it back on. No more problems so far.

I had the battery not coming in contact with the connection too. I put a penney between the cap and battery.

I called Garrett and they told me that it could be fixed so I am sending it in to get it fixed. I do not know how I ever metal detected many years ago before they had a pinpointer (without one)

On the inside of the screw on bottom cap is a little felt pad with felt on one side and adhesive on the other. Over time, those flatten down and don't hold the battery in place as well..

You can cram a little piece of something in there, but a for a longer lasting fix you can buy a whole sheet of those little stick-on felt pads just like the ones Garrett uses for a couple bucks at wally mart or any hardware store and replace them as needed.
