Garrett Pinpointer

New member
Hi all,Just got my pinpointer today and i really like it,one thing, is there someway to cover the sound on it?it is to loud for me.Thanks for any info.
TJ

I was afraid of that. Once I get mine if the vibrate mode is good I'm going to disable the speaker.

I just answered that on John's review. Put a piece of felt or other sound deadening materiel over the speaker and a piece of tape over that.

Covering the speaker helps, but doesn't come anywhere close to silencing it

I put a thick piece of felt over the speaker and wrapped around it a couple times with gaffers tape. It's more "polite" now, but still plenty loud. I'm going to try cork when I get some, maybe that will help a little more.

But you can't shut this thing up without disabling the speaker.

I think the volume was set for the hearing impaired!

Seriously, this is not that big a deal. Most of the time I don't mind having some audio, but sometimes I'd prefer a vibrate only mode. It's my only complaint about a pinpointer that otherwise seems about perfect to me.

Why would a great company put out a product that has so many negative reports from their strong supporters.. Did they have a test product sent out to the potential users before putting it on the market? If not, why not?......Get Dirty...Dirty Don......

How would you disable the speaker without ruining the pinpointer? I just think the loudness draws unwanted attention.

Not to rant, but what is it with Garrett making their new products so loud and not offer a volume control? :ranting: First the Ace and now the pro-pointer. We aren't all hard of hearing and both of these products just scream. :surrender: The real problem is, is that besides the volume they are both so good otherwise I won't get rid of either one.

I think on the 250 being loud. They probably thought that a volume control on the head phones would make it adjustable? Then they probably though if you were wearing phones then the pinpointer would have to be loud? I guess it's better than being too quiet? I've had beep only pinpointers and it's a kid magnet in the tot lots and parks. If the vibrate is strong enough then I don't need the audio. So I'll just have to see when my pinpointer gets here?

I thought about buying one but if there is not a vibrate mode, I would not be interested. I like to NOT draw any attention my way when I am out

You guys have to be kidding me right? Draw attention? Get noticed in a populated area? Your wearing head phones and swinging a detector, something most people don't see allot of anyway. With the speaker covered with just electrical tape and you holding it, you cant really hear it 5 feet away. It seems loud because your right on top of it. Use a pair of Grey Ghost and wear gloves, you will want some audio. Targets jut out of range barley give a thump and all you get is a chirp. If you have to somewhat hide from enjoying your hobbie then i would find a diffrent place to detect.

Where are all the negative reports? The only things I've heard that could be construed as negative about this pinpointer is that it has no vibrate only mode and the speaker isn't waterproof.

I also use Tesoro's Treasure Mate. The only things I like better about it are the lifetime warranty (as opposed to Garrett's two year) and the fact it has a vibrate only mode. In every other respect I think the Propointer is better.

Let me make this clear: I think this pinpointer is great!

I have not seen any "negative reports", in fact everything I have read has been positive. I've had a Garrett Pin-Pointer for over 3 weeks now and it is the best pin pointer I have owned bar none. People are talking about a wish for the ability to silence the Pin-Pointer and run it only in vibrate mode. I don't consider that a negative report, which would be if the tool did not work, or failed, or did not detect targets.

This is a first evolution of an excellent, excellent pin pointer. I know Garrett monitors this board, I hope Garrett technicians are developing a next-generation with a selector that allow the user to choose vibrate, tone or both, even as we exchange messages.

HEAR THAT GARRETT --- We'd love to see a modification of the Pin-Pointer that will allow us to select tone, vibrate or both.

But that is not a complaint. Over three weeks of solid use, this Pin-Pointer is one outstanding addition to the metal detector's tool box. :jump:

It's not a matter of hiding my detecting, it's a matter of courtesy. If there are people outside nearby who have been nice enough to give me permission to hunt their property I'd prefer not to risk annoying them with constant beeping. It's really not that big a deal with the speaker covered, but without the speaker covered this unit is a screamer. Apparently quite a few of us would like the option of a vibrate only product.

I don't want it to seem like I'm negative about this product, I LOVE THE PROPOINTER! The performance is everything the positive field tests say it is.

I think by adding a switch, dials or anything more would just be one more thing that can go wrong. One more place for dirt, water to get into. More parts to wear out.

As long as we are talking about possible improvements, I would suggest adding a small LED in front of the power button so you can tell quickly that the unit is off before holstering.

By the way, I really like the small size compared to other pinpointers on the market. And you don't have to wait a minute for the auto shutoff to stop the cross talk chatter like you have to when using a Vibraprobe.

I can say without a doubt, that as long as my propointer conitinues working I won't be replacing it. It's the best I've used so far.

Ok guy's i did the tape thing, guess what,it worked for me i can hardly hear it now.Now am a Happy Camper.thanks for all the info. guys.

Hart with all due respect i does have an LED that serves as a light.

EZRider, Yes it does have a great little light and it has proven to come in handy. I was just thinking it would be nice to have another light by the power button to make it a little easier to tell if the unit is on or off without tilting the unit up. Just wishful thinking.:beers:
