Garrett pinpointer problems

My carrot has been having problems lately, its about one year old and when i turn it on the light comes on and it buzzes but won't pickup anything, i turn it off and on again and it works fine. Also when i hold the button on it won't start to beep to change modes, can hold on for 30 seconds and still it won't beep. When i let off and hold again it will turn off.

I believe there is a two year warranty so i may have to send it in.

It seems to me like there is a problem with the on/off rubber button splitting across the inside middle section. This causes a poor in no contact with the actual switch. I think most folks are applying too much pressure on the button to turn it on and off. This has been my experience. It maybe due to a weakness in the rubber button or operator over exuberance.
