Garrett Pinpointer mount

I bought a Garrett Pro Pinpointer. Couple that with my daughter just had her tonsils removed yesterday( and is doing great)...so I have nothing to do sitting around the house today. I wanted to mount this on my detector somehow so that:
1) the weight wouldn't be an issue
2) the cost was minimal
3) very efficient
4) I would not lose it. Should have made this 1).
I started thinking about stretch cords and started looking around and found a drawer full of cell phone charger cords(which EVERYONE has)(pic #2). I snipped the ends off leaving a few inches of straight cord(pic #2). I then weaved the straight cord back through the coiled cord on the armcuff(pic#3). I can pull this hard and it does not come off! Sweet. I then used electrical tape to attach the other end to the pinpointer(pic#4). I then attached the pinpointer on the same side as the coil so that it will not slip off. It can easily be moved from one detector to another.
A prime example of the K.I.S.S. formula!

For me hunting in the woods, that would just be another thing to get snagged in the brush...For open fields or water, that is a good idea...

HH,

For me the belt mount seems to work however wish Garrett would make them in a bright color as easier to find if left on ground..Anyone come up with an idea how ro keep a coin on the PP if using the tuning trick with a coin as it really works.
PS: some red velcro or bright color band attached would make it easier to see if left at a dig...

I also prefer just the belt mount and here are a couple of pics of how mine is set up to answer some of Dan-Pa's questions. I do like Keith-Tx thoughts to tether the ProPointer with the cord and will try it this summer when I vacuum seal mine for shallow water use. I get the velcro tape strips from the tollway authority ... free for use to attached tollway tag to windshield in a removable fashion.
I also use a piece of electrical tape over the speaker to quiet the speaker. The red tape is electrical tape.

All of this is removable in case I need to send it in for warranty work. Works for me when I'm :detecting:.

Hey Dan..To keep a coin handy for supertuning your P.Pointer try this.
Take a zip tie and tape one end just above the battery cap. put the tie through the center of a washer and tape the other end of the zip tie to the barell of the pointer. Don't leave any slop in the tie...
This will keep the washer in place all the time. (just remember to slide it back down to the butt of the Pointer when your target is found.

I like the Velcro tape but how do you slide the nickle down to the exact spot. From my understanding the magnetic field changes each time you turn the pointer on and when you slide the nickle down it bends or pushes the magnetic field forward. Do you mark and use the same spot all the time?

Not sure I understand what you are asking.

I don't leave the nickle in 'supertuned' position. It is returned to the Cap position every time PP is returned to the belt holster. I don't use it in 'supertuned' mode when retrieving every target, only when necessary.

Generally, I only use the side strip of velcro if I need to lay the PP down so I can deepen a target hole and want to keep it in 'supertuned' position (usually, the nickle just stays under my thumb). By the way, you do not need to turn off/on the PP to go from 'supertune' to 'normal'. Don't confuse this method with the method to tune the PP to get right on your target before beeping as this does require turning the PP off and back on.

If you are asking how to find the 'supertune point' to gain more depth from the PP...just slide the nickel (or washer if using zip tie method) down the shaft of the PP until it starts to beep...then back off until the beep stops. It is at this point that I stick the nickle to the velcro on the side (can do it all in one motion with your thumb).
Here is a great video someone put on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUlewb1xGN8
Hope this helps.

Couldn't figure out how you would slide the nickel down the side with the Velcro strip. Now I get it!

Thanks for the follow up post.

Love the pro pointer mod. On mine i waterproofed first and attached the curley wire to the pro ptr holster a d pro ptr.

i usually keep mine in a pocket, that sleeve thing for me doesnt work, the snap is always undoing itself and falling off the belt and or the ppointer is falling out of the sleeve. dont get me wrong, I love the machine, (have owned three), but the holder doesnt work out for me. I spray paint mine with that orange property marker paint. Not so good around bright orange maple leaves in the fall though.CO
