As a detectorist i like to restore vintage metal detectors when i'm not in the fields searching. Most of the detectors i have from the 70's or 80's were easy to repair with documentation widely available, but Garrett got me on this one
Recently i found a Garrett Master Hunter 7. Looks brand new but came without the shaft and search coils. I didnt think finding a coil would be a problem, but i turns out to be harder than i thought.
It turns out that the later models that were made just before the 7X dont use the older 5.5khz deepseeker coils, but use the Crossfire coils. I can imagine that the Master Hunter 7 units with the Crossfire frequency are much harder to find, because they were only made in the late 80's. Calling Garrett isnt a option for me because i live in the Netherlands so i emailed them. I got the reply that Crossfire coils work on all Master Hunter 7 models. I know for a fact that is not true.
So my question: how can i tell that my Master Hunter 7 is indeed a late model capable of using Crossfire coils?
The circuit board of my ADS 7 looks like a hybrid between the older ADS circuitry and that of a 7x (the white cuircuit but with a lot of the new components, like the potmeters with the black protection)
Edit: the serial number on the stem and circuit board is 0888-019
