GARRETT MACHINES ?????

RELIC_HUNTER

New member
Excluding the Infinium, all the water machine's made by Garrett, which one would be considered,or used most,to be the most often used...

correct me if I'm wrong but they only have two. The infinium and the sea hunter mark II. I have the sea hunter and like it alot. Both units are Pi's though. so not much in the way of discrimination.

I hear good things about the Infinium, but a new Excal is on the horizon for me!!! Now, presently, my little Ace 250 is a machine that produces, having paid for itself several times over this past year. I hunt swim areas exclusively.

Even though my given name is Garrett, Charlie is not kin to me that I know of and I have bought my last Garrett water machine. There are just so many more out there in this day and age that will outperform it. :)

Then go for the Sea Hunter MK II.

I used one for a summer a few years back when it first came out. I found it to be quite a sensitive unit, very easy to use, and it's built like a truck.

There as good as anything else it this price range. Try to disregard the "discrimination" claims by the manufacture if you want to find jewelry with it.

As for the Infinium, I doubt many can perform better for slamming on DEEP targets in the water and sanded in locations!

Thanks and HH!!!

I suppose the Infinium is a great machine. I have heard and read much good stuff about it. It's just that I'm not one to favor PI units.

My next unit will be an Excal II. It's just a comfort thang, I guess. I just know with Minelab what to expect. It seems with the Sea Hunter I was continually messing with it tryin' to get it to stablize. Then, after having it in storage for a season, I picked it up and to my horror, the insides were corroded over because the factory-sealed batteries had ruptured. Of Course Garrett would NOT stand behind it. So I gave it a fling into the garbage can. And that's why they won't get a chance to sell this country boy another water unit, fer sur. <><

Diggindirt said it, there are'nt many, if any PI's that can beat it for raw depth and performance. It has dual tone and reverse disc which works well to the general depth of the target! It's my first Garrett machine and it works great, ground balancing is not an issue when you get to know it. Granted it has a bit of a learning curve, but for the money, and the fact that it is such a versitile unit, you can't go past it. Arkie John, I bet you don't leave batteries in any of your units for any length of time anymore, it's a costly lesson, that a few of us have learnt the hard way!

That unit came with factory-installed rechargables that were factory-sealed into the casing. Further, it had a plastic seal placed on it at the factory that is similar to the seal the electric company places on your meter. Now, it's been a long time ago since I owned that silly thing, but I was under the impression that I was not to break the seal or I'd risk my warranty. Where I got that idea, I'm not certain anymore, but I'd bet it was mentioned in the owner's manual. Too much water under the bridge. I live and learn. 20-20 being hindsight, maybe I shoulda read a little better, I dunno. Better yet on the hindsight, I shoulda just steered clear of it and coulda saved myself a small fortune. :) But there weren't a lot of water-machine options back then, and Uncle Charlie was very convincing ih his ads.

For you guy's sake, I hope they're a lot better machine now than they were then. I have owned several Garrett machines and they all did me well except the water machine. I could waterproof my little yeller feller and have much more confidence. But instead of going to all that trouble, I'll just invest in the leading, time-tested water machine with the best track record reported in these forums. Hey! It's a free country. Weigh all the variables and buy what you want.<><
