Dennis, you got a great detector which can do all sorts of tricks which you will soon find out. There is one thing you should keep in mind, and that is to hunt with the profiling turned "OFF". Only use the profiling feature to size an object, and after that has been completed, turn the profiling "OFF". If you hunt with the profiling on, you will get all sorts of falsing and it will drive you nuts
. To turn the profiling off/on, you just push the pinpoint button once. (it will also tell you on the right side of the screen if the profiling is turned on or off).
I suggest you use the pinpointing method for shallow targets as follows:

Why on shallow targets? Because I have discovered some interesting secrets not mentioned in the manual. If you get a strong shallow target reading at about an inch in depth or less, "A" size and the tone suddenly drops off, chances are you have a coin. If the same scenario gives you a tone that gradually diminishes, you probably have a bottle cap or other piece of junk under your coil. If you use this method on deeper targets, they will all gradually fade, and you have to compensate for depth by digging a hole even further inward from the front inner toe. Or....just raise the coil, and where the strongest signal is, directly below it is dead center (target)
This machine can also be set up to audibly give you sizing.....ie long beep for "C" size objects, medium beep for "B" sized objects and a nice short beep for "A" coin sized objects. This is a great feature to use if your eyesight isn't too good, or night hunting, which I do quite often in the winter in the snow hills, providing it isn't too cold out.
Once again, you got a great machine and welcome to the great fraternity of Garrett Detectors
"DO" go out and practice many hours, ans ask questions on this forum, as there are lots of GTP 1350 users here.
