Garrett GTI 2500

Treasure wiz

New member
I took my new Garrett GTI 2500 metal detector to thr beach and had in descriminating jewerly mode .I had very poor luck in the wet sand and wet shallow water. What did I do wrong ,and I was using the 9.5 in. standard coil that came with this unit.Any help would be greatful.

On your 2500 menu there is a salt elimination setting did you turn that on. Also turning down your sensitivity a bit may help.Running at standard 9 sensitivity may be a little high for salt water. I also have 2500 unit but live in upstate N.Y. I don't do much hunting on salt water beaches. Hopeful someone out there that has a little more experiences with salt water hunting with the 2500 can help you more but until then give my suggestion a try .

No I did not turn on salt water feature.
My main problem was I can not get any signals or hits in the wet sand and if i did it says it was down 12 inches and showed large size 0f 10 inches. It works fine in regular park soil or in dirt.
My main issue is not getting any strong signals in the salt water sand or shallow water.
Thanks for your help.

It is important to turn on the salt elimination while salt water beach hunting. Sometimes I've had a almost surface target read 12 inches on occasions. Not knowing the area your hunting it is possible there are not a lot of targets. There is allot of detectorist out there believe it or not. Some of the tragedy of these hunters are dig all targets throw all trash in the garbage leaving a clean area to hunt the next time they come back. Believe me your not missing any good targets . Next time on the beach stick a quarter in the sand and see how deep you can detect it. You need to build confidence in using your machine. Salt water can cause some false signals. Your good targets will be still be detected. Good Luck

I have only had this 2 weeks and have done some hunting locally and found lots of coins but no silver yet. This was my first trip to the beach here in Florida at New Smyrna beach and it had lots of people there but no metal detectors at all.I searched the dry sand and wet sand and up to 6 in. of water and nothing, yet when i got home it finds all coins I have set up in test garden just fine.I will try the beach again and now have turned on salt elimination.
Thanks for all your help, and I was in discriminating mode /jewelry mode.I tested in yard and in coin mode it will not find any gold rings or brackets, but in jewelry mode it still finds all coins plus gold.

Gold rings are usually found in the area on your meter of 2500 near pull tabs. Putting it in coin mode can eliminate nickels, pull tabs and rings . Best run jewelry mode and dig it all.

As far as silver coins go the us mint stopped making them in the 60"s. Most people have hoarded any remain silver coins so they don't get lost in daily use. Any silver coins that have been dropped from that period probable been found already because they are one of the most obvious target the cheapest detector can detect. A silver Quarter will read at the 25 cent spot on your detector just like the new quarters. The idea is to find and old park or an area that people were in during the 60's or earlier. Also the most important thing is to find a spot like that that no won else has hunted. Silver men rings usually come up as 50 cents area.

[size=large]for sure silver is scarce but still being found in some of the most hunted out places around. the most used park in my area is just that. constant daily use and hunters at all hours and silver is still being picked out. not much but there is some still there. i can't believe the amount of rings being found in this park. right in the middle of town. so don't give up on the silver.

When I used to do salt water beaches and there were very few targets I would use the all metal mode and ground balance it and I got some deeper items in the wet sand than disc mode...takes a lot of practice to do that but it has its perks with finds.
