i bought a garrett gti 1500 at a garage sale and i looked them up online and they are still worth quite a bit. i was just wondering what makes them worth so much after 11 or so years, does it do any special? i have to replace the coil because i want a water proof one but what makes them worth so much?

I would say the unique imaging mode . No other detector that I know of has this . Also cannot remember if the 1500 has the talking mode . I own the gti 2500 . Mine is the older version with the talking lady and the imaging and all the coils that fit it .

The GTI 1500 is a decent machine. You want to replace the coil to have a waterproof coil. Just remember if my mind serves me right, you will lose the imaging feature as the Imaging 12" and the 9" coils are not 🚫 waterproof if I remember right.
Best of luck out there and the
GTI 1500's don't have a whole lot of Depth... Nice unit though!!!

The imaging feature, when learned properly works quite well in the top 4-5 inches. The id is quite accurate too. A great detector for coin and jewelry hunters. Below are the results from a hunt in 2011.

What makes a rusty beer can worth so much? It’s not its usability vs a new can. The value of those sorts of things are what people are willing to pay for them and that changes. On something like that my thought is it’ll be going down. Buy low and sell high!

Hi, The GTI 1500 was one of my first detectors many years ago and I still use it today. I do have a couple newer ones and use them all. The GTI 1500 is spot on to pinpoint, depth read out and imaging out there. It’s not too much different from the 2500 which is a little pricy . It can hit those coins at 7-10 inches and has a lot of neat features, just a well built detector for it’s time.

Best of luck to you with the GTI 1500. Enjoy
