garrett groundhog question

blowfly1967

New member
twenty years ago i bought a second hand garrett groundhog metal detector from a mate, who bought it new and couldn't get the damn thing to work properly.it's been hanging in the shed all this time and every year i'd pull it out clean it up and start to make plans to use it.until the kids finish school and go on their merry way i just kept hanging it back up.on my 65th birthday my wife bought me a ace 250 so i'd have to occupy mind as a hobby.now i read and research as much as i can on the subject,my ace and i are becoming good friends.on the tesoro forum i read a post that mentioned that the groundhog was well liked in america for finding gold rings and coins. having never fired this md up ,i was wondering wether i would be wasting my time.the garrett gold stinger utilises the groundhog system the same as the old one.they both operate on the 15klh range which i'm led to believe is better for finding gold rings and other jewelery similar to the tesoro compadre[i think you're are on the right track peter d ]thank you all for your previous help it is much appeciated blowfly.

Shucks yes that was and still should be a good detector. Clean that hog up, get some batteries and see if it still works. You can find a manual for it at the Garrett site if you should need one.

Get it out and you shall see!!

yes that is a good metal detector. I got on new in 1977 and still using it today. I found a 1942S nickel and 1893 IH penny. It will just not stop working.

Hopefully it will still work! I was always told to keep the detector inside the house! The garage, shed, barn is too damp in the winter and too hot in the summer, this extreme will cause circuitry problems! The exception would be if you kept it in a box or sealed container! Not sure where you are at but hopefully if needed you can find a repair facility!.........................HH................Joe
