What are your hunting conditions? Fresh water or salt? It makes a big difference in what is the best machine for the job.

There is only freshwater in my area... but i do take trips to the ocean a couple times a year...

PI's sound off on everything in fresh water lakes. And iron hangs around a lot longer there then salt water beaches. I use my Infinium ( previously Mark II) only in the deeper water and hunted out beaches. I have done well using mine. I use my VLF similar the Tiger Shark in trashy areas and the first 10-20 feet of the lake.

Thanks for the advice.... it helps with trying to decide.. Have a great day John.....

If you do plan to go PI, you will notice you can get a nice Infinium LS used on eBay for the cost of a new Sea Hunter... For now, I'll stick with my GTI 2500.

I highly recommend the Tiger, but for fresh water only. I have one with the standard and 10" coils, and prefer the 10" for ground coverage. The 10" will still find the small stuff, and that is what the Tiger is famous for ( it finds stuff that falls through your scoop and drives you nuts  ). As for your trips to the ocean, take up fishing and leave the Tiger at home, unless you are going to hunt above the water line. Even though it has a "salt mode" it was nothing but trouble and endless falsing. I found a whole .33 for a WEEK of hunting in Destin a year ago. I did an underwater "air test" with it and it wouldn't hit on a dime 3" off of the coil. Unless it was JUST dropped, things are MUCH deeper than 3". I now have the Tiger and an Excal2, the Excal2 is rapidly becoming my favorite UW machine for both fresh and saltwater, but I must admit I haven't found a single stud ear ring like the Tiger will hit on. If your choices are between the Tiger and the Sea Hunter you need to ask yourself just how much salt hunting you are going to do. If it is a lot then the Sea hunter is the way to go simply because it can be used in both environments, although as stated in other posts, you will be digging every bobby pin and piece of iron junk out there, and to me this would get old fast. I am NOT knocking the Garrett product, it is a pulse induction machine, and that is just the nature of the beast. Good luck on your endless search for the " perfect" machine!! HH Joe

Hey Joe thank you so much!!!!!! you definitely helped me out... i think I'm going to go the tiger... i saw where you mentioned the Exal.. how is that machine in fresh water????? i passed up on a really great deal on one and I'm still kicking myself... lol Well again if you have time your advice is greatly appreciated :) thanks
