I am trying to id this detector. It says water proof to 6 ft. Has 3 knobs . Non ferrous range elim, ferrous range elim and depth. Also button which says , press for pinpointing. Has a 6" coil. A screw in headphone cable. There is no model name on it . It is a garrett. Black control box. I am trying to change batteries but it is sealed shut. Don't want to damage it. Thanks

You are describing a Garrett AT3 or AT4. Just undo the clips in the side and the box will separate from the face. There is a rubber seal, but the AT3 and AT4 were usually prone to leakage. I have the AT3, and it leaked doing a fresh water hunt. I opened up the box and let it dry, and it worked fine.

Hope this helps......

John described it right.

I had an AT3 Beach Hunter for several years, and got some great finds on Florida beaches. In my searching, the control box never went underwater, as I only detected in the shallow surf and the dry sand. It was sensitive, stable, and accurate.

You have an excellent detector.

Cheers,

Joe
