Garrett AT Pro

New member
New to metal detecting, new to this forum. Ordered the AT Pro, should be here tomorrow. I have always been interested in metal detecting. I have been watching the videos and reading all the advices on here. Cant wait to get out and try it. Any advice will be appreciated.

Great detector to start out with. I'm new to the AT pro but not metal detecting. I am really liking the AT pro, just a fun detector. Advice: Take the time to learn the detector and what it's telling you. Give it some time, metal detecting takes alot of patients. Dig alot of the signals to get a feel for it. I prefer pro mode, zero with iron disc set at between 25 and 35. Do your research and try to find the really old places that people used to gather. I use Historic Areials.com, Historic Map Works.com to name a few. Read the AT pro forum as its members offer a wealth of knowledge and are always willing to help answer any questions you might have. Most importantly just have fun and enjoy the time outside and your new hobby, Joe.

Start in an area with a low trash level. Watch the instructional videos. Learn how to pinpoint. Put some items (coins, jewelry, bottle caps, etc.).out on the ground and listen to the sounds they make.

Thanks for the info and the encouragement. I will be checking the forum and withdrawing the knowledge of the experienced members. I have just retired and don't want to sit in front of the TV. I would rather go out and hunt. Again, thank you for your help.

Hope you get great finds this year. If you need any help, just ask. There are a lot of polished users on this forum.

John

Love mine it's become on of my favorites only 4 AAs can hunt in the rain sensitive on gold good id system what more can one ask for.

My advice....................buy a massive treasure chest, your going to need one lol  On a more serious note though the ATP will take you places and force you into areas that you would probably not go into normally. She is a beauty in all terrain so if the opportunity presents itself take it, you will be amazed at what you might find! Frustration can be our worst enemy so if your having a few drama's turn the machine off chill for a bit and then get back into it, you will master the ATP in time and never look back!
Cheers!

First drama question, I just received my AT Pro. So I'm filling out the warranty card, where the heck is the serial number located?

Received my new AT Pro. Next is to learn how to use it. Will have some time, ground is still frozen. Any pointers, please let em fly, will welcome all knowledge you wish to share.

Watch the videos on Garretts website. On the hobby division side of the site. Click on learn and explore, then instructional videos for the ATpro. There are seven in the series. If you haven't already. I found them to be very helpful.

Great machine. Take it slow in trashy areas, you will be able to find coins next to iron. However, too much trash will give you a problem with the stock coil, such as around bleachers and shelters in the parks.

Being new to detecting and this forum - Welcome to the AT Pro and AT Gold Forum. This is the place. Plenty of experience here. plenty of pictures and stories of finds (results) here. Of course there would be plenty of results as we are talking AT Pro and AT Gold here. Read the Metal Detectorist Code of Ethics. Read the AT Pro Owners manual, watch those "How To" videos repeatedly listed at the top. Then get your display cases fixed up. Next take your vitamins, you'll be needing them for strength. When the thaw comes you will be busy, very busy digging all that nice buried treasure. Kick back learn and enjoy. And above good luck and happy hunting.

I have had my AT Pro for about a year and a half. Love the machine.

If you have never detected before, you must remember to take it slow. I'm referring to
Learning the hobby. Do not think you are going to find silver and gold immediately and
Allof the time. Does not happen that way. If it does you are one lucky person. I have As
Much fun digging up a hot wheels car, or a cub scout tie slide as I do finding a silver coin.
The best finds are the ones you never expect to find.

Read the owners manual, refer to you tube instruction videos and practice, practice, practice
Most of all enjoy the hobby.

I was out hunting this morning, not having much luck. Found a couple of dimes, a football
Medallion and some pieces of copper pipe. Then I went to a place I had hunted 5 times before
And bingo, I hit a target that registered a solid 93 in multiple passes across it. At 3" down I dug out
A 1937 walking liberty half dollar. My first "Walker" ever. Very exciting. Walkers are few and far between.

Learn how to get your AT Pro into the pro mode as soon as you can. Pro mode makes your detector as good
As any machine on the market.

Good Luck & Happy Hunting---------------------------Enjoy your new hobby

If you are searching in tot lots and around the edge of bleachers turn the sensitivity down so you do not detect the bleachers then run your coil parallel to the bleacher seats.
You will learn all these things as you go. Tot lots are a great place to start, easy digging.

Congrats on your retirement. This hobby is more fun if you are retired because you can spend as much time doing it as you want

Try and find someone in your area that has an AT Pro that will go hunting with you. That would shorten your learning curve. Otherwise
Ask any of us who are on this forum. Very knowledgable folks here.

I retired 12 years ago. Don't know how I had time for a job. I detect most every day.

Thanks sparkster, I intend to tap all the knowledge I can on here. I want this hobby to be fulfilling and the only way I can accomplish that is to learn and be patient. I have all the patience, just need to find places to hunt.
