Really nice buttons, how deep were they? Do you think the bigger nel coil changes the VDI as compared to the standard coil?

Maybe a little but a dime is 83 a quarter 85 and a copper is 79 or 80 clad penny 76 to78 or so. I think it slows the machine responce time down a little too but just slow your swing speed a little not like granny speed but not lighting fast either. I think the trade off is well worth .But to be honest I didnt swing the stock coil for a long time so I really learned my machine with the nel coils so im use to them. The seperation is better with the stock coil its smaller but the nels are not shabs either.

One more thing about the numbers Ive dug flat buttons in the 40s all the way up to 80s so buttons range alot . the ole 63 shotgun shell jumpy alot of the time but I dig it anyway because some of the civil war buttons ive found were jumpy up and down on the vdi. The one thing I found that the vdi locks on great and the tone is silver and copper when you go over siver coin man what a sound !

yep the signals sound close enough, I was kicking around the idea of getting a nel coil for my ATP. Wondering how much deeper you can get a good reliable signal with it. I've passed up some signals that were very faint with no VDI reading at all, but pick up the signal maybe once every three swings. The depth meter says 10+ inches. Maybe with the nel coil it would give some kind of VDI reading to indicate what the target might be.
I dug such a signal once and found an Indian arrow head in the hole at about 12" , but never did find the target because water started filling the hole. I might go back and re dig it this summer. It's a nice arrow head so I'm glad I dug it.

Dont do that dig them please dig them. When the machine gets to edge of its maximum depth it will do that .Sometimes its iron and sometimes its not Ive got a 1740 king george copper thats in good shape that I found with the nel coil that would just give the faint signal be it repeatable .(NO VDI) Ive got deep pewter buttons early ones 1780s or so and they were just a pop in the head set .(NO VDI) It took me awhile to figure that part of the pro out. When their deep forget about the vdi and go with the sound even if it only picks up every other swing cut the plug out and see if it gets better. You ever dug a hole and lose the signal completely ? alot of times for me the target rolled down in the bottom of the hole and since the halo was broken the machine just loses it moral of that story when that happens make sure you check the whole. That part was off topic bear with me. Pro has a tendency at its detecting edge to show good targets as iron so when you come across a real deep target and it maybe just a pop in the head phones or you pick it up on every 2 or 3 swings or a repeatable faint (THOSE ARE THE ONES I LOVE!) make sure to investigate Ive found a civil war block i button on a signal like that best I remember. I think there is a tendency to rely on the vdi to much, take some coins and mix them with nails and watch how it changes the numbers I tend to lean toward the sound on deep targets its been real productive for me . Does the nel increase the vdi readings I dont know but it does increase the depth where you can get the pop in the headphones or the faint repeatable . I can hit a dime at almost 9 but the sound would be why I dug it not the numbers a quarter at 10 and again the sound would be the reason. (DIDNT TRY IT ANY DEEPER) the pro is telling you something with those deep faint signals and it maybe real good my advice is if you remember where some of those are go dig a few and you will see what im talking about Happy hunting! BTW the dealer who I bought mine from told me not to dig anything under a 50 you know what he had no clue what he was talking about Ive found some good relics in the 40s some flat buttons ring there and with masking a coin could be down there with the nails (IRON) driving the reading down. that man has been detecting 30 years so be careful who you take advise from .You will dig more trash the way im talking about but you will find the goodies too. how much iron discrim you running?

Thanks for answering my question. Yes I recall where some of those signals are so I'll try to dig a few this weekend. I run in pro zero and run iron disc at 22. I'll let you know what I come up with.

cool look forward to hearing about them. do me a favor when you go back to them targets cut the iron discrim to 0 and see if it makes any difference. please let me know im interested to see if it does

Ok I'll try running at zero , also checking at 22 just to see if there is any difference in the signal. We've got a lot of rain here lately , I hope its not too wet for a deep dig.
But I'll definitely let you know the results. Thanks for all your help .

well I dug one of those deep signals and came up with a 4" iron ring at about 14 inches. One of the other holes had me down around 15" and the hole filled in with water. Pin pointer said there was something down there but it was still deeper. Maybe an old piece of big iron , I don't know but I gave up for now till the water dries up some. Will try again later.

that happens its just part of it but one of them holes you dig like that is gonna give up something good! ive dug alot of deep iron even the deus im getting gets fooled on some iron. big deep iron will give a good tone wish technology would fix that but until then we will just have to dig them.I wish you would have found something good because I dont want you to think I dont know what im talking about just keep trying when in doubt dig it out. happy hunting btw if you get down 14 inches chances are its big iron because the pro is not gonna pick up a coin or button sized target that deep so keep that in mind when you start getting down that far.

Yep I just got to get lucky with one of those deep digs. I know that's how it goes , but sooner or later I'll get something good out of it. Thanks Calabash for the info . :)
