Garrett AT Pro:garrett: Coil Weights

All the coil weights were taken with the coil covers and lower rods.

Garrett 5 x 8 Inch DD Coil: 15.7 oz.

NEL Sharpshooter Coil (5.5 x 9.5): 1 lb. 2.3 oz.

Garrett Stock DD Coil ( 8.5 x 11): 1 lb 6.9 oz.

The rod attachment point on the Sharpshooter being in the center of the coil gives it a little better balance.

Garrett hit it out the park with the AT Pro's ability to find silver coins, but they fell flat on their face when it comes to balance. It really sucks.

Glad you did that Gerald. I was to lazy to do it. Yeah, I wish the big coil in particular was mounted in the center. It does make a huge difference. Thanks, HH jim tn

The AT Pro is light enough that I have no problem hunting 4 hours without any fatigue... balance seems fine to me.

Well good for you.

When I first got my ATP last year the stock coil felt like a curling stone on the end. My hand would literally go to sleep after a while. It took some time to get used to. I felt the same thing again this year but I got used to it much more quickly. There are still times when I have to stop and shake my hand to get rid of the tingles. Still love the machine, but I'm being honest.

Its YOUR balance that sucks, buddy!:buds:

nice report, Tab...that NEL is getting some attention here at the Mudpuppy bar and grill..

I don't think anybody is really slamming the A T Pro as a swinging good detector. It certainly has proven itself in all kinds of environments to be right up there with the best. In trash and iron, it is near outstanding, in fact. I'm in pretty good shape for an old man and accustomed to swinging almost every day for 4 to 6 hours. There are days, however, when I don't stop, lay the detector down and dig but a few targets, that my arm does get weary. And I have had, and have, other detectors that that doesn't happen with. I hunted a field the other day where I went long stretches of time without hitting something to dig with the 11" coil on and after two hours I had to stop and give my arm a break. The point of all this is, as good as the A T's are, they could even be better with better coil/rod placement and over all ergonomics's. Now, lets all get out there and find something good. I want to be clear here..I do not own or use an At Pro....

I do however use a different detector that has a balance problem..That with the coil weight, machine weight etc does cause fatigue in my arm and shoulder.......

............................ everyone's strength, and their personal body balance is different Eddie......... Also their stamina level varies. So rod and coil placement can and does make a difference to many of us..

I have used a buddies At pro..it felt a little front heavy to me too........... I think too as others have said. A little tweaking on the rod, and coil connector area would make a big difference to some of us on many detectors..

Exactly why I went to this setup it has helped me a lot on my arm fatigue as the ergonomics are a lot better

BarryL that rod set up looks great. I've read some good things about the straight rod set up.

Then I ask myself:), if it's so great why don't the metal detector manufactures use the straight rod setup?

Tab I have asked myself the same Question but yet to come up with a Why! Maybe someone in the Manuf. public Relations dept. could answer it . I do know that it has made my detecting experience more enjoyable and less Pain in my wrist and shoulder . With all that being said I am almost 61 and not a big man , and have thought about putting my At Pro up for sell and going back to A lighter detector and also a non Target ID machine .
