Garrett AT Pin Pointer Problem

A few days ago my Garrett Pin Pointer was acting erratic. Changed the battery but no help. I purchased it from a local dealer 15 months ago. Sent it in to Garrett on March 20, 13. On March 26, 13 (yesterday) she called me and said the coil was out and it would be about $60.00 with shipping to get it going again. I am upset. I have used that unit maybe 8 or 10 times, so it virtually has not been used. The dealer is out of town so looks like I will go 2 week ends in a row without the pin pointer. I have heard great things about Garrett Customer Service. I can not find the receipt so I am in limbo for awhile. There is a serial number on the pin pointer, but I still need validation. Anyone else had this sort of a problem?

I have had problems with my pin pointer. First thing I did was register it, and all my detectors. I really matters when you registered it. That's when they start the warranty. Did you buy it used?

I bought the pin pointer new. What I did not do was register it. I wish I would have-----lesson learned. What I have to do is wait until the dealer gets back in town and then we can get a sale date (which will show that it is within the warranty period) and then go from there. The lady at Garrett repair said they really have had no problems with those units. Anyway....I'm in a waiting mode.
Sincerely, Patiently Waiting.

Hello, I had that problem with the pointer garrett, send it to my dealer / seller and I change it for a new one free.
I hope that you are all easy and cheap.
a greeting

Thanks for the info SENDA; comforting to know that someone else had that problem. Supposedly the dealer I bought it from will be back in town tomorrow (Friday). I just hope that I can validate the date of purchase and then get this ball rolling. Sure do not like being in limbo.

I'm sure Garrett will help you as soon as you can verify the purchase date. How did you pay for it. Perhaps a cancelled check, or cc statement will help.

Just got the receipt from the dealer and emailed it to Garrett this morning. I called them and am waiting to hear from them.

Just talked to Garrett a little while ago and the unit is on the way back to me....yeah!!!! It's amazing how hooked one can get on using the pin pointer. Back in 1966, when I got in to this, no one even thought about using anything other than just the detector......anyway, the lesson to be learned here is SUBMIT WARRANTY INFO. That would have solved a lot of problems and grief.

I do my registration before I use my detector. It can also help if it is stolen and ends up at a pawn shop or in the police evidence locker.
