Garrett Ace 250

I am new to detecting and bought a Garrett Ace 250. It arrives tomorrow. From what I have been reading and finding online, the 250 will not detect gold? maybe I missed something, but I know someone out there can help with this.

That is not true at all. With the sniper coil, in low to moderate mineralized soil it should be fine for nugget shooting. And it will find gold rings also, with any coil. As a matter of fact, pretty well all metal detectors can pick up gold, provided it is not notched or disc'd out!

YES it will!! Teeny rings sometimes give the iron grunt tone (I hunt in Relics mode), 10k usually hit foil/nickel, 14k usually nickel/tab, and class rings at zinc. Several have paid for my Ace. I hit one a month ago at nickel id WHILE I was in Coins mode in an extremely high trash area that just came shy of paying for it again.

I just got a new Garrett Ace 250 and was wondering if I should use it with the cover on. So I put the cover on and it fits very tightly. I decided I would take the cover off and try it without the cover. well, I had a hard time getting the cover off. It fit so tightly. I was afraid that I was going to crack it, taking it off. So I'm not sure if I should use it or not. I'm not sure if there's a way to make it easy to put on and take off.

Makes no difference. The Garrett manuals tell you the coil should be above the search matrix to better deal with minerals-or at least all manuals I've had. While not absolutely necessary, it keeps your detector new looking for a long time. What I absolutely WOULD do is get the sniper coil. It's the only coil I use now.
