Garrett Ace 250

I am very green to this hobby and a first timer to this form. I have yet to purchase my first detector but am leaning toward the Ace 250. I have read many positive comments along with a few neg. I don't want to invest alot until I know if this hobby is for me. I thought it might be a fun activity to do with the grand kids . I would appreciate any comments concerning the purchase of the Ace 250 and accessories which you can buy for it. Ken

hi there,im from uk and have the 150 and the 250...either one would be ideal for you to start the hobby believe me,the 250 only has a couple extra features so if you want to save money then go for the 150,they really are no different,iv been detecting only for 1 month and 7 days,iv been on a playing field and the 150 gave me LOTS of coins, then went on a ploughed field with the 150 and 250,iv now already amassed a large collection of silver hammered coins dating from 1200s to 1600s not to mention the many roman buckles, lead items and other old/rare coins...all this in 1 month,so as i say i find the only difference is a pinpointer on the 250 which you may want if you are digging turf/grass but a pinpointer isnt needed in soil as you just grab handfuls of dirt...im sure you will have lots of finds and lots of fun so dont let anyone talk you into a more expensive detector, not until you get the bug for it anyway lol so good luck n all the best :)...hope this helps you

Go for the Ace 250. Run it at 4 bars sensitivity and coin mode. Not knowing if you like the hobby or not there is no need right now to buy a Propointer or Sniper coil. But if you like the hobby those would be the two accessories I suggest buying.

The Ace250 is a great little detector. Like with any you need to watch the video, and read the manual.
Since you're new you'll have a slight learning curve, but we're all here for you.
It's basic. Select coin mode and set it at 3 - 4 bars of sen, walk slow, swing, and dig.
The Ace is no slouch. It works, and the best thing is you'll be able to pass that one down to the grand kids
when you purchase your next one.

Happy Hunting

Welcome aboard! Like everyone says, you can't go wrong with an Ace 250. It's a nice little machine and lightweight. I think you would be well pleased with it, I know I am with mine HH to you!

Welcome aboard Catken. I bought my Ace 250 last spring....first detector that I ever owned. It would be hard to get me to give it up now. Since mid March I''ve found just under 3000 coins...mostly pennies (I'm in US). Sadly we don't get any hammered silver coins over here but I did find an Irish 1 Pound coin. Dont even ask how it got where it was! I have the propointer and the Sniper coil and will probably buy the new double D coil this winter. If you like the hobby and decide to stay with it, spring for the pro pointer first. It cuts your detection time by a bunch! Hope you and your grandchildren have a great and sucdessful time with whatever machine you buy.

[size=large]you'll be happier with the Ace 250. some vids on you tube to show you how to pin point with it. if you find you like it and the hobby be sure to get the pro pointer. you'll really like that even with the next machine. i used mine with my grandson. i found the coin and started the hole. he pin-pointed and found the targets. had to let him keep the loot. he earned it. very easy to learn. you may not get another machine. if you're just into coin shooting then the 250 does a great job. the more you learn the machine the more you'll find. and you'll cut down your garbage digs. can't excape them but you will cut it down.
enjoy the kids and the hunts.
