Garrett Ace 250. Mods with stuff found around the house

Did a few simple modifications to my ace 250 with some things from around on the house spending zero dollars. Thought I would post the link here. Might be of some help if you are looking for simple do it yourself ways to keep the grip from sliding, making a rain cover, adding a light for night hunting or a simple coil guard.

Nice post Ryan..great to cobble something together that does the job and costs zilch.
I was tired of my Ace tipping over when I set it down when I dug so cut and mounted some plexi-glass about five inches long, drilled and bolted the glass to the underside detector tabs and made the unit much more stable. Just a wider base footprint.
My Grandparents lived in Vaughn..not really far from Veneta. Pulled a lot of carp out of the Long Tom when I was a kid and have always wanted to detect that area.
Keep those posts and pictures comming. Your writing and pictures are a cut above the usual posts and are appreciated.

I made the whole tail end of mine a grip.. Used thick armourflex insulation.
I also made one for the handle of my pinpointer. So instead of the slick plastic
handle, it's got a thick cushy grip. On the Ace, my "handle" goes all the way to the rear
where the arm band is. Mine has been like that since nearly day one, so in theory my
original padded handle should look like new underneath. I also have set of dollar store
lights that I can clip on to the armband if I want. That way, they light up the display, and
also the ground I'm searching at the same time. I once used a home made coil cover
for my 9x12 coil until I finally got a Garrett version. They do save a lot of wear and tear.
My coil bottoms all look like new if you take the covers off.

Very nice webblog. Loved to read it and nice pictures. The ace is a beauty:thumbup:. I have been to Eugene in the 80's and I have a few cousins there. Also in Portland, north-west av. I believe. I like Oregon with it's beautiful nature.
