Garrett ACE 150

I am considering buying an ACE 150 to start me on my detecting career. Have not seen a lot about it in the forum and would appreciate some opinions.

:usaflag:Spend a little extra and get the Ace 250...it's worth it.

Agree.. If you can spare the extra change, go for the Ace 250. The pinpoint mode is
well worth the extra money. The 150 has no pinpoint mode which makes it a tad slower
locating targets, and often will have bigger holes dug to find the target.
Other than that, not a huge difference.

I was never sorry that I bought my ACE 150, and when you get the hang of pinpointing targets you won't have any trouble. Like anything, practise, practise and practise. Use common sense, don't try to learn your craft in a well groomed park. Great machine for the money.

I plan on getting one for a backup-but the 250 is worth it because of the Relics mode (just above iron nail reject) and the adjustable discrimination feature that you can lock in in the Custom mode. I agree with CraiginAlberta that the pinpoint mode, while a good sizing tool, is not that important a decision. If you don't mind being limited to three disc features, it can be a good detector. And most important, whichever you choose, GET THE SNIPER COIL.

Thank you all for the advice which is leaning in one direction - I intend to take that advice
Tom

Another thing to remember is that the resale value of the 250 is a lot greater than the 150. Not that you would ever want to get rid of it once you find your first ring and silver coin. I have two 250's along with 4 different coils.. PLUS the propointer.....
