Just bought a garrett 1500, on dry land have had good luck finding silver or pennies, can't seem to get a good hit on clad, and on the beach have had no luck at all, lots of false hits, am i doing something wrong. I am still using factory settings. spent about 4 hours at the beach today and not a hit, but plenty of digging. Hoping for some suggestions.
Thanks Rudy

Can't help you much with the beach hunting, but for land use, if you are still at factory settings, try the following: BAck the Threshold down to where it's just a slight hum. Next drop the Sensitivity down to 6 or 7. This will make her run pretty smooth and you shouldn't be getting falsing so much. If you are new to detecting, use the Coins mode for at least 100 hours till you get the feel for what she is telling you. Then slowly experiment with some of the other modes. Lastly, SLOW DOWN!! Give the 1500 time to latch onto the targets. Hope some of this helps. Happy Hunting!!

Thanks BigCatDaddy, will try and let you know , sounds good to me , and yes I am new to the sport. Thanks again for advice

Perhaps others have beat you to the beach. The beach is a very popular place to hunt. Usually, you dig everything on a beach, as rings can read as pull-tabs. The 1500 is one of the best coin machines ever built. There is a learning curve, and it does take a while before you and the machine will understand each other. Don't take all the icons where the cursor falls too seriously. They are only a probability, and can be wrong at times. You gotta dig dig dig dig to get the good stuff. All of us do. You just don't see all the junk we dig in the pics, as it is not pretty. Can I suggest you spend several hours at a high school, with just a screwdriver, and pop out of the ground all the signals. You should get lots of pennies. Great practice too! But most silver rings and some gold rings will read as coins too. You just never know what will pop up. That's what makes this hobby so much fun!

You didn't say what kind of beach -freshwater, saltwater? And BCD gave you some good tips. I hope you have the first wind of the cable over the top of the shaft or better yet taped straight up the shaft for about a foot or so. Keep the coil off the ground as much as possible. If you have any problems check back in. The 1500 takes a little getting used to.
