Hello, welcome!!!

What did you have the sensitivity set at on the beach? Is it a fresh or saltwater beach? I swing an Ace 250, and when I set the sensitivity above 4 it sometimes goes nuts in certain soils. Saltwater is a whole new ballgame. The guys on here that are veterans to detecting can help you more with this, but I know from reading posts/books/detecting sites that you have to decrease the sensitivty on the beach, the saltwater wreaks havoc on some detectors. I will soon find out when I move back to Florida, and go beach hunting. It's all in learning your detector. These detectors(ace 150/250) like most detectors have automatic ground balancing, but sensitivity set too high will throw it off too.

Would be nice to know the nature of your problems. Blank questions are a little difficult to fathom and my crystal ball is in the repair shop. :).

Welcome aboard Kev! Your gonna love this hobby. Congratulations on your 1st detector. I hear the ACE detectors are very good machines! You have found the best forum on the Internet. I don't know much about the 150, but, I do know that "Garrett" Rocks! Spend some time and go through and read all the past threads on this forum and most questions will be answered. For those that are not just ask away, there are a lot of "Pro" people on this forum and are very willing to help you out. We love to see pictures of your finds, that's almost the other half of this hobby (This forum). Good luck to ya and if you need any help we are here.:garrett:

Set your sensitivity at 6 or 6.5 and leave it there for the next 100 hours of hunting and see what you come up with. Sensitivity is the most misunderstood and most abused control on a detector.

Yeah I don't know how they have the gain set up on the 150 as opposed to the 250 but I would assume that would be close.

I had a BALL with my 250 this week with the sensitivity set at 2! It was at a fairly new ball park and I knew the targets wouldn't be deep. The Ace was REALLY quiet and the coins started popping out everywhere! I was still finding coins at 3" and screwcaps at 5" with ease. I've done this several times and it is truly awesome to believe. I really was shocked myself at the results. The foil and canslaw just give a quick, short response which makes them easy to distinquish, also. The only requirement is to overlap the sweeps slightly more. Just a little note on my latest "fun thing" with the Ace. Thanks for reading. P.S. I always raise it to 4 at less trashy sites or if the grass is tall.

this is something i must learn about the sensitivity it was driving me nuts at first then i put it down a notch did not find any thing but a lot of bottle cap they was coming up as coins but i was only in the field for half an hour till i had to go but i did find one coin in the end was not old just a penny was happy i found something in the end and its a start hopefully will find more and i must find a place were people don't throw the trash around that's what is wrong with the UK people don't have any respect what they do with their rubbish but i did take my rubbish home and put it in the recycle bin.thats 7 coins i have found now 6 was in my own garden all moden but i am happy with that i hope to find some old coin next time thanks kev
