I received my Garrett Sea Hunter Mark II few days ago. After some hours reading the manual and watching the instructional video I decided to test it on my garden.Works great to detect coins,iron,knifes...but not GOLD!!!! Put 2 gold rings together 4 inches away the search coil....and nothing.I was checking on standar trash eliminitation so I changed to discrete trash elimination..and nothing!!!Cant detect GOLD!!!My elimination was on 7..then 6...5...4...3...2...1..0 and NOTHING

The rings may have been too small for a PI to detect. Garrett PI's have never been known for thier ability to find small gold rings. They usually do find on larger wedding rings and class rings. If you had it set to Standard Disc Mode and had the Discrimination turned all the way down to zero and where not able to detect your gold rings then either the rings were to small to detect with that PI or the machine is defective. Too bad you didn't ask about which machine to buy here on the Forum before you bought the Garrett as I doubt that anyone would have recommended that machine. There are so many better choices. Sorry for your bad luck with your first water machine!!!!

Should have bought an Infinium LS,it likes small Gold. I have dug small post ear rings at 8 inches wich my infinium. If you order one get the mono ,it realy likes GOLD.

The Sea Hunter II is quite sensitive to gold jewelry, so let's check out your settings.

Set the Elimination control to zero, (0). Put the Power control in Standard Trash Elimination. Set the Threshold as to just hear the audio. Sweep slowly.

Try this out.

Sorry to hear it squalo, I ran the Mark IIs for my 1st 2 seasons water hunting. Mr.Bill's settings are absolutely correct. I did well, but nothing I've ever used compares to an Excal on small gold. You pay a prime up front, but then GLORY!

another interesting thing..... there are things i cannot get a tone while airtesting with my excal. BUT are things i have found with it.... i havnt owned a pi unit but it may be the same strange thing....
