Garret at gold screen rainbow

Albert

Well-known member
I just purchased an at gold and there looks to be a rainbow of colors on the screen. I thought I read about this somewhere a while back. Is there a fix or is this just the way it is. Thanks. Al

It's a plastic overlay that you can do at home or send it in for replacement, I'm currently working on getting my ATG overlay replaced as well.

You dont have to send it in .If you will contact Garrett in Garland Texas they will send you one out with instructions on changing it out very easy to do . Just make sure you tell them which machine you have so you get the right one HH

I had read on this forum of guys seeing a rainbow in the window and it had never happened to me until one day I went detecting with my polarized sunglasses. When I looked at the window with those glasses on there was a rainbow and when I took them off, the rainbow disappeared. I just ignored it and haven't had any problems. Should I be worried?

Talked to one of the lady's at Garrett's and she told me the rainbow effect on the screen was because of the layering of the waterproof face plate . Also said that it made it more visible if you wore glasses . I wear prescription glasses so I can really see it. She said it was normal and it did not effect the performance of the detector . I found that if you hold it in a certain way , that the effect is not so noticeable.

Yeah, good info...I do know the polarized sunglasses like togamac was saying produces that rainbow...bummer, since around the sun and water a guy is generally wearing polaroids, making the screen all rainbowy and more useless than mfg intended...good thing in the long run, helps a fellow hunt by tones I suppose, still, you'd think Garrett would know that most of us in field users wear glasses, since demographic market research should have ID'd most of us buyers as old guys, and small screens and small icons are a biotch too see without the rainbow let alone with it!.....one thing, when a guy finds a pair of sunglasses when hunting and puts them on, you know right away if they are polaroids or not just by looking at the screen!
Minor inconvenience to me I guess, I hunt a lot at night! Though this subject has come up before, so maybe they will take it under advisement for future product rollouts?. BIG PRINT, or none at all!
