Here's how most Garrett Detectors read Canadian Coins - http://www.findmall.com/read.php?79,1745962,1745962#msg-1745962
Because you are new, I am going to tell you to turn your sensitivity down to 6/8 bars, and keep the coil a couple of inches of the ground, while keeping the coil parallel to the ground at the same speed. The new ACE International models are very sensitive and deep. In fact, I can't run mine at 8/8 sensitivity. It is just too unstable and difficult to use. Hint......most Canadian coins bounce around and on the new ACE detectors, pennies will read in the 82-89 range. If they are deeper, they will read a number higher. Quarters, dimes, some nickels, loonies and toonies also bounce around, but they will read in the low to middle 90's. Square pull tabs will read at about 78, but if deep will read in the low 80's. Pretty well all Canadian Coins will sound off that "BELL TONE" signal
There is a learning curve to any metal detector. I have just shortened your somewhat, if you use my settings and numbers. Hunt in coins mode. This should pretty well include all of our coinage. The rest of the learning comes from practice and repetitive target ID retrieval.
If you don't yet have a Pro Pointer, get one. It will save you so much time finding out exactly where the target is. And..........don't use a digger! Use a screwdriver to both find the target by probing for it and also for popping it out of the ground. Use a digger for when you have a good 100 hours on your machine, and can pinpoint accurately. Below is a link on how to properly dig a small hole.

Watch all the videos you can on the new ACE 400i and that should help get you comfortable.
