Garret ACE 250 feedback

I am just getting started in "Treasure" hunting and have been referred to the Garret 250. Just for curiosity sake, is this a good recommendation? When I was much younger I played with my dads old radio shack unit and it was pretty much, well, not very good. If it picked anything up,you could pretty much see it.Thanks for any and all feed back.Lowell Lynn

:usaflag:You can't go wrong with the Ace 250...very effective and user-friendly.:usaflag:

It is a good detector. It was Charles Garretts goal to put the most modern electronics he could into a $200 detector. He managed that.
It is capable and functions well and is better than some in the same beginners niche.

I also own detectors that cost 3-4 times as much as the ACE 250. I will be the one "spoiler" among the Garrett cognoscenti and say that there are detectors that surpass it, some at only 2 times the money. So don't think that the hype behind the ACE is all there is to it. Even Mr. Garrett has written that once you set your budget, try to save $100 more and get the next model up. So if you can afford it, get the GTP 1350 - it is everything the ACE 250 promises to be.

If your budget is $200, give or take, get the ACE 250. For the money it is at hard to beat.

I absolutely love the 250. I was deadly with it and when I changed it for the kelly co 10x14 I tore up the ball fields and pinpointing with the 10x14 was so easy and dealy accurate. I got so good with that ace I could pin point and pop the quarter out with no mess to the ground. I would not hesitate in the least. I recently got the GTI 2500 and still getting use to it so I still use my ace.. But ease of use or just a hell of a coin shooter the ace is it.

The 250 is still the most sold detector on the market after being out for a few years if that answers your question. Other manufacturers have been beating their brains out trying to catch up but haven't succeeded yet.

It's a very solid performing detector. Worth every cent. It's also fairly easy to learn. It has plenty of scope to grow with it as well. About the only thing that I've disliked about it, is the audio is a bit abrupt, but I got around that by putting tape over the speaker (it has no volume control) and knocked out a few notches which means you don't have to listen to all the rubbish signals. Although I have used 8 different detectors, the Ace is one of my favourites.
