Garratt 250

Can I get an unbiased opinion on how good/or not so good the Garratt
250 is on salt water beaches? Thanks~ "Spitfire"

As in all single frequency metal detectors, depending on the amount of saline present and mineralization, you may have to add some discrimination and/or turn down the sensitivity. This may vary from site to site. Some people from Oregon say it works great in their highly mineralized soil. Some people from Florida also say it works great on some beaches. If you go to a multi-frequency machine, you will pay 3-5 x the price, and have a learning curve to contend with. The ACE is just a turn on and go machine with minimum settings required. Keep asking questions

Thanks John! Let's take this a step further....X Terra 30 v Garrett 250? Opinion,please!~ Best wishes "Spitfire."

I've detected for the most part of 35 years and have owned a bunch of different detectors. But currently, "all" I have is an Ace 250. Granted it is not gonn produce like the Excal or soverign, but, you use what you got.

I found three nice diamond/gold rings last season on local beaches here in Arkansas--and I didn't hunt THAT much. Two of the three rings were in thigh-deep water in (of course) freshwater lakes in and around the Hot Springs area.

With those and several more without ice, I paid for the little guy--a couple of times over.

I will tell you, I do plan on gettting me an Excal pretty soon. I miss the multi-frequency performance of the Minelabs--especially in the water.

Hope this helps.

Is that good enough for you?

I had both at the same time. I sold the xt30 because it was not twice the detector (going on price here) than the 250. Also I wasn't going to wait on a small coil for the xt30 to come out.(I still would be waiting). It would probably cost $150.00 anyway. In my test garden there was no difference in the two units.
So buy the 250 and sniper and save some cash!

I just bought and ACE 250 a week ago and have not taken it to the Beach yet. Did hunt a white sand vollyball court and got several coins at around 6 to 8 inches which impressed me a lot the Ace will do fine in the dry sand might want to consider the larger coil it runs appx $85 bucks. An lower the sensitivity control if it start to chatter in the wet sand. I hope to take it to the Beach in the next two weeks if the weather breaks. very icy in TX this week. so I will PM to let you know. I like this machine a lot for the money.
