I wanted to Thank Doc for giving me the OK to post this info.

Folks, some of you long time forum readers know of, or have hunted with me in times past. A few of you have even been to Ganes Creek, AK with me or on your own.

I have the 1st two weeks reserved at Ganes Creek, AK for gold nugget hunting and I have a couple people who had to back out.

At this time I have an opening for group #1 and an opening for group #2.

If you are interested in going to Alaska and having a chance at finding TROPHY GOLD NUGGETS, then email me and I

Dang!

That is one heck of a place. I have been reading about it since I started detecting again and I must say that sounds like the opportunity of a lifetime.

I don't think time will allow, but I can daydream...

To some, this trip is a true "Once in a Lifetime" and a few folks have been back each year.

I have been asked many questions and most want to know "if you can find enough gold to pay for your trip"?

I would not gauge this trip on the amount of gold that you find. If that is your only factor, then most folks will go home upset because just like gold hunting anywhere else..it is not easy and you will have days that you may not find a nice nugget, especially if you are after the larger ones. If you want to find any gold, no matter the size, then I recommend you get a GB-2 with small 6" coil and hunt the bedrock benches near camp. There are folks who do this and find 100's of small picker nuggets. You can sluice and pan and get gold every time you grab a shovel of dirt, but I want to DETECT for gold so I

I took a GP3000 and a GB2 with me. If I ever went again I know what machine I would take.

First, there is only one reason to go to Alaska, and that is to score a big nugget - well it's not the only reason, the place is awesome, and the faciltities at Ganes are top notch.

Second, Ganes has more trash per square inch than anyplace on earth. I spent the first hour and twenty-five minutes digging two targets. One was a large nut at 30 inches, the other was a piece of rebar at around the same depth. The ground is hard as hell to dig in, and the trash is everywhere and very deep.

With those two things in mind, I would take a Sovereign with a meter and a WOT 15 inch COILTEK coil.

The Sovereign is a coin and relic machine that will not find nuggets under a quarter ounce very easily, but over that it works great, and it is deadly in its ability to screen out iron trash. If the meter shows a negative number, the target will null out and you know it's trash.

Gold will ring in at about the same number as a nickel coin.

The WOT coil would give superb coverage as well as depth, and is waterproof. It would allow a person to cover the maximum amount of ground, and the Sovereign would keep you from digging those large useless holes for trash.

The machine of choice for Ganes is not a Pulse Induction machine like the GP or SD.

Take care!

I would think that you should get the same effect, however, I just said Sovereign because it is such a simply machine to use.

Yes I tried an Explorer-II with 15" WOT for half a day and did not find any gold, but I can do that with any machine...I sure cut down on the amount of iron I normally dig. It was raining that day and I did not want to get my other machine wet and I had a cover for the Explorer-II. Now I know more about Ganes and will have covers for all machines I take up there.

Just so you know. I am leaving for TN in the morning and will not get back until middle of the month. I hear some Civil War artifacts calling and so is one of my customers who needs training. Guess I better fly out there and train him on how to dig C.W. camps.

I'll answer all questions when I get back.

I have seen so many great stories about ganes creek. My wife has given me permission to go there someday. Once I get caught up on bills I am thinking on a trip in 2007 or 2008. I do not have a gold detector. Would I be ok with a Fisher Gold Bug? or A Tesoro Lobo?
Or should I get a Minelab gold detector. I cannot afford more than say $800 for a godl detector. This would be my first ever trip to look for gold so I know nothing about how to find gold. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Emmett

Gerry has been up there probably more than anyone I know so he knows the ropes. You only have a week so it is important you go with someone that knows where the hot spots are, and can keep you clear of the places that have been hammered.
