gamma 6000

I recently bought a gamma and it's on its way. Excited by all the reviews, my father and mother are dedicated to whites, but I hope to change that to some degree. I have two whites myself, the coinmaster 5000/d , my favorite but getting heavy since I have a bad back. I haven't seen as much in the forum on the gamma as I'd hoped. I plan on adding my two cents and videos about what I find both in the ground and with the machine. Thank you guys for a place to learn, discuss and help.

I have a Gamma and really like it. I bought mine a little while back and have mainly been hunting parks with it. My only gripe is the EMI. I had the same issue with my Delta 4000. The coils seem to be very sensitive which when hunting away from power lines is a good thing. I am running the 11" DD coil and very happy with it. I have found alot of nickles with it. I have had previous makes/models of other detectors that had trouble locking in on nickles. Good luck with your Gamma ,I am sure you will really like it.

Thanks for the info ramairnut. Most of my hunting will be away from power lines but I'll keep that in mind ( I hope lol) when I get close to them. I'll only have the 8" coil for now, but from all the info I've read, I'll invest in a 11" and 5" by spring. Thanks again for your knowledge.

The 11"DD actually does a pretty good job of target separation. I have been hunting parks with this setup and have done pretty well. The 5" would definitely be better though, especially in the trashy areas and around the tot-lot equipment. The 11" DD won't let me get very close to fences and tot-lot equipment but other than that I am very happy with it. I just listed the Gamma todayfor sale only because I have my sights set on another detector but would have to sell the Gamma first. If it doesn't sell, no big deal because I like the Gamma and would only sell to get a specific machine. Good luck with your Gamma.

I hunt with a gamma 6000 8" coil. Just dig everything 60+. You will miss out on Nickels. But...... You'll catch all the Gold rings. You will also catch all the pull tabs(modern). Thats how it is! Or when it doubt dig it all!:usaflag::teknetics::detecting: 10K registers solid 60 no movement + or -

Thanks Midwest. After ordering it on the 28th, I thought it was on its way but lol maybe I'll get it by Christmas. Went to the beach yesterday with my old whites, found a junk titanium ring and a 1950 red Wheatie in near perfect condition no mint . So I guess it wasn't a bust. But like most people waiting for something - too soon isn't fast enough. Can't wait to post my first finds with the gamma.. Thanks for the info

I got out today with the Gamma to a park/swimming pool near where I live. I usually turn back the sensitivity due to the amount of trash that comes with a public park. I have been hunting the perimeter of the pool and around the entrance/exit area. To date I have pulled $11 in clad from here in just two outings (few hours)and have more ground to cover. Anyway, I had the sensitivity set back to 65 and the Gamma hit 2 quarters in two different locations at 7" deep. This Gamma never ceases to amaze me at how deep it will go. I haven't had the chance to really hunt some open ground with the sensitivity at full(99) but if it can hit a quarter at 7" with sensitivity at only 65, I am sure I will be very pleased.
The target separation of the 11"DD is extraordinary.I hit a dime at 5" with a pull tab just 1-2" away from it and was able to isolate the signals separately without runover. I know it's no E-trac but if you really listen to what the Gamma is telling you, it doesn't lie. I also found a quarter under a pull tab at 6". The signal was mixed but solid. After pulling back the plug I immediately saw the pull tab but decided to swing the Gamma over the hole again after removing the pull tab. Well 1" further down in the hole was a quarter. I felt the Gamma taught me a lesson at that moment and I am glad that I had listened.
Overall, I am very impressed with the Gamma and have decided to just keep it. I will just save up for that T2 and have the Gamma for a reliable back up.

That's a good couple of days. Happy to hear you keep finding stuff with it. Me and my son went out to the beach's today found very little but got a phone call as we were ending the day with awesome news, got my gamma today, so thanks to whomever may of helped, up above or out here in the forum. Took it out in the yard where I've hit it dry ( so to say) with my older unit and my eyes lit up at how much it beeped but the dig will be tomorrow cause it's now dark. But couldn't wait to give it a quick test. My yard is trash filled bad from about 40 years ago - but now I'll save alittle time. Thanks for your time and help. Good luck with your next dig.

Let us know how the 8" coil performs. My Gamma came with the 11"DD and I have thought about buying the stock 8" coil. I will definitely buy the 5" coil since I can't resist hunting the parks/tot lots.I am curious to find out how deep the 8" concentric goes. Have fun with your new Gamma!

Ok, first daylight went out in yard - spent last night reading manual. Knowing my yard has alotta buried trash I found a spot with no reading and dug a hole about 5" and drooped in a newer penny covered it up. Swing swing and it found it as a quarter, in disc. Then as a pull and a dime .... went thru several settings all metal, sensitivity notch and ground grab. Turned different ways and 1 time it went to zinc but that was when it didn't lock on. Now I know practice is needed and ground is bad. I even set sensitive way down and back up. Still no lock on. I was about 25 feet from a power line ground to pole and took that into consideration but I hope that distance was fine. I'm gonna move along ways away and re-due the test. Ill repost in about a hour . Still got some learning to due...

Ok. Went aways away from all power lines and known buried phone lines, found a spot with no readings for about a five ft. raidius dug my hole, tested pennies quarters dimes Nickel. The only way I could get a good lock was with, only nickel zinc dime quarter notched in. Ground balance was 71 , auto and manual, sensitivity at 80, then 70-60-down to bottom and back up to 90. All still locked good to 85. In all metal no lock. Pin point worked well though. And I decided to go round the area, 10 foot away locked in on a solid quarter at all angles at 3 bars deep, dug upper a lump of coal, lol went alittle further locked in a solid nickel 2 bars dug up I guess lead. So thinking my area - yard and long private drive is too trashy I'll try a park. I hope I don't have a defective item. Not giving up yet..8" coil and turn on and go - no lock on at 3" with above test also.

Did you ground grab correctly? When I arrive at a hunting spot ,I turn on the machine ,set the volume to 10 and go to all metal mode looking for a quiet spot. When I find the quiet spot, I go to ground grab and lift the coil up about 1' and press the pinpoint button. While holding in the pinpoint button I move the coil up and down in a span of about 6" coming within an inch of the ground. I look at the display and when a number locks in I release the pinpoint button. Now I am ready to hunt in descriminate or all metal mode. In my area the mineralization comes in at 55-65. When I hunt local parks I run the sensitivity at 60-65 due to the trash. I run the volume at 10 due to the fact that since the Gamma doesn't have a threshold adjustment, running the volume at full capacity simulates having threshold. The lower you run the volume the more chance of missing those faint high pitch tones. I don't know if you use headphones but you should in my opinion. I use headphones with dual volume controls. This way I can set the volume at full on the Gamma and adjust the headphones to a somewhat loud but comfortable setting.
At a sensitivity setting of just 65 I got a faint high tone signal (bouncing 85-89)at the park I am currently "cleaning" and proceeded to check it out. I swung over the target in both directions and the signal was consistent. Then I bumped up the sensitivity to 80 and the tone got better and locked at 89. I pinpointed the depth at 7". Before I dug the target , I set the volume down to 4 and removed/unplugged my headphones. I swung the coil over the area again and there was no tone at all. It is hard to run the Gamma at a volume of 10 with no headphones because: 1. it is annoyingly loud 2. you will kill the battery alot faster than running with headphones. This really supports the suggestion of using headphones and running the volume at full with the Gamma.
Anyway, back to the target. I dug the hole and removed the plug to find the quarter just like Gamma told me it would be.Learning a new machine definitely has it's rewards and is alot of fun. Keep us/me posted!

As far as the ground grab goes I'm not 100 percent sure as it is a learning curve but I just got back from a park - spent some time in a picknic area and found it to be skittles trashy for a new learner/machine so went to another spot in same park and first beep locked a zinc at 3" dug plug and pulled it out and guess what a shiny zinc was laying there, walked a few ft. and another penny , as it said, then a quarter. All within about 10 mins. So I know my yard is very mineral laden with iron deposits and trash I am happy the park was a good result and have to learn how to better set it up for my yard. Thank you ramairnut for your time and help. A 5" coil would be good I think. I'm gonna spend some time in the yard with no expectations and go thru every possible settings until I get it. So far, the park was impressing.

W ell didn't go through yard. My dad called and wanted me to go over and show it off. Once I got there I explained every thing thus far and went out in his yard. He took his 1976 whites too compair. He was impressed when his didn't beep at all and mine did, all be it was iron but deep. I explained if I didn't get a solid lock it could be 2 or more objects or trash, and we dug the 1st. spot that wouldn't lock, was a gum wrapper, lol. But the cold got to us and we're going out tomorrow.. First we gotta go deer hunting tho.. it's good to know bout the volume, and I'm glad it's loud cause I couldnt here my other one at the beach. But I do have head phones, thanks for the info. Gonna take my camera along tomorrow and video it as I'm doing it.
