Galveston / Houston Area

I am brand new to treasure hunting and have read some suggestions that us new hunters join a metal detecting group to learn techniques and the ropes of how to hunt. Does anyone know of any groups in the Houston / Galveston area?

I went out for my 2nd time today on Galveston beach (Im very new! ) I went during low tide, 50 something degrees and 40 mph wind. Maybe I'm crazy? Eh! But Im young and had the free time so I tried LOL!

Heres what I found:

2001 Nickel
1969 Penny
Shovel (no handle)
Rusty Screw
Partial Metal Circle a
Metal/ Black Rubber stopper (Thingymabobber)

I've been watching the Galveston Beach cams all week and there really hasn't been that much activiity going on. Thought about going this morning but decided on going to Surfside instead since it's alot closer. I'll probably be going this summer in the afternoons after the crowds have died down and hopefully pick up freshly dropped items, winter has always been the best time to hunt these beaches, least amount of sand gets you the deeper stuff. Don't know if the HARC club is still in Houston, I don't belong to a club, used to but just didn't get anything out of it. Brazoria County has a club that meets every 3rd Thursday of the month at the library in Brazoria, TX. Good luck.....

hey you got out and could swing your machine..now thats 90% of the battle...the other is just luck...:detecting::thumbup:

I even saw about 3-4 other hunters out when I was finished. So I figured I must have been doing something right...meaning I picked a good time. Thanks for the help guys!
