Gales of November

Yesterday and today we have gale force winds coming off the BIG Lake...in 1913 Nov 7-10 there was a big gale that killed a lot of folks, and today is the anniversary of the Edmond Fitzgerald sinking in a November gale..
Needless to say I went out! I had to go to places that dont have any big trees around, just the usual sportsfields and whatnot. Running the F70 42 sens, absolutely pounds coins in the top 4", makes it easy to pinpoint by bouncing the coil, easy to recognize and unravel multidenom spills...got a nice little stack of Q's. Got 126 coins today for 11.40, 2 were 56 wheats...got 57 coins Sat for 4.33, a couple of junk rings and this good luck wheel. Been really locking in on the nickels...water hunting all summer makes those tones burn into a fellows mind... Been raking leaves in the afternoons, trying to get them up before the snow, have to use the wind to help or its fruitless! Hope somebody found something good!

Mud you're a coin hound. You can buy a lot of silver coins.... or beer with all that clad.

I'd like to see a slow motion video of your coin recovery technique.

Thanks guys..yeah, The toughest target is a fresh drop dime in the grass, tough to stab, luckily the 70 gives a double chirp on shallow targets, so then I usually rake the grass with the driver at and angle to find it...any coin thats 1-4" deep is perfectly killed with a stab...I dont use the PP button, so that speeds things up, and probably prolongs the battery life too....

Just sweep to ping, hop coil to pinpoint, stoop and stab. Then just grab screwdriver with both hands, raise the tip slightly above the target, rip, ream, and wallow out a hole large enough to get your index finger down in there and tip coin with screwdriver, pinch it between finger and driver, and extract...took longer to type this than to do it...10 sec from first ping to pouch is what I'm after...though some targets it can take as long as 20 sec if a guy has trouble or tips the coin. But when a fellow gets rolling in the zone, its more of a harvest than a hunt. Bang, Bang, Bang! No wasted movement or energy, very fast and fluid all at once motions...intense bursts of energy once the coins are found, or else its a matter of covering lots of ground for singles and strays..

When I got started in this sport, I naively estimated a guy could find 50 bucks per day in clad, well, I was wrong, come close a time or two, but I really wanted to believe it could be done...speed sweeping for shallows has its place along side all the other various disciplines this sport affords...can you imagine if a fellow ever got into a virgin silver field where a big month long revival was held in the 1800's? A 100 silver coin day would sure be something to accomplish. Anyway, If I get down to your area this winter I'll show you if theres any shallow clad left!
