Gain settings on CTX?

New member
Can use some insight on exactly what gain does? Usually keep mine around 20-24. Having it to high cause falsing or too low losing depth? What would be the sweet spot? Thanks in advance for any help!

Basically gain increases what you hear of weak signals while holding strong signals the same sound level. I run mine at 28 minimum unless I run into a problem (ie, almost never). I use my depth indicator instead of my ears for depth estimation.

Fitness86 KinTn is exactly right. As a matter of fact, I run mine wide open. It has nothing to do with depth, disc, etc. other than exactly what he said.
It acts the same as the gain adjustment on a 2 way radio. It makes weak signals stronger. Try this. Nex time you are out, set your gain at about 15 and
find a weak signal at that setting. Then go back in and change it to 28 or 30 and see how it does enhance the sound.
