"Gain" Question

After looking at all the postings here (by subject only) I have seen nothing concerning the "Gain" settings for the Explorer. And, since I am a new Explorer owner, I was wondering if many of you guys have experimented with it??? What your preference is?? And, why?????
I am (of course) aware that we all have different hearing capabilities. But, I would just like to get some input from some of you veteran users and why you chose the particular "gain" level that you did.
I just started hunting with my Explorer this past Saturday. Mostly have found pennies, the best of which were two Wheaties, a 1953 d and a 1955.
I'm new to this hobby anyway, so I have a very long way to go.
Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
I run my audio gain at a 7 as I want to beable to hear my targets that are deep as my hearing is not that good. I find that the tarets that are surface to 4 inchs sound the same and after that the get softer as they get deeper.

the more gain the louder the deeper coins will be, I suppose thats good in areas that are beat up on and have litle trash.. I prefer a lower setting so I can hear the deep softer ones without having to look at the depth meter. Also in iron a high gain will make those small falses on edges of iron sound like a good hit at first causing you to stop and check all the time. I think its much easier to distinguish falsing with a lower gain.. As a rule the bigger the coil the lower the gain setting I use.. with the 10" I use 5-6, and 8" I use 6-7, and 5" I use 8
