G2 vs ATP?

I have an ATP but really like what I hear about the G2. At 15 kHz the ATP is sold as All Terrain. At 19 kHz and from reports, I suppose the G2 could do most of the same... except the waterproof part. For any who own or have tried both machines, how do they compare in the field performance wise? Depth, recovery speed, sensitivity to silver coins, use on a wet salt beach, sensitivity to micro gold jewelry, nuggets, performance in hot ground? They could be very close? I realize there is some compromise with 1 machine for everything... and most here would favor the G2- just tell me why.

I like the idea of a threshold on the G2 and 1 9V battery! The G2 also looks better balanced. I sometimes travel to hunt and may make a first trip to England soon. Looking for the best simple, small, powerful do it all (above knee deep water) travel machine. The G2 might be it? Thanks for all advice.

I have not used the AT Pro but do have the G2. I have used it in lakes and it hits the small gold and lead weights very hard. I really like mine, it does what I want it to do in shallow water. For deeper water I use the Excal. I do hear the AT is a fine machine. HH John

Both are great machines! G2 is lighter, Better balanced. Picks up smaller targets. Runs smoother. Runs quieter and has a 5 year warranty. Best machine in iron I have ever used. Really has a knack for unmasking coins others cant hear. I LOVE this machine!!!

AT Pro is a great machine as well and waterproof! Hard to bead at its price.

Holler if you have questions. Love to help answer them and make you a great deal. Thanks, Bart

I will echo what Bart says, Ive had them both. You wont loose anything getting a G2 except the deeper water hunting.

About the same from what I hear

They both get about the same depth. I like how quite my GBPro is running and for the deep coins you listen for a tiny little high pip. For me it's easier to hear the deep targets with the GBPro. The AT Pro is a little noiser. Both detectors in damp ground are hitting all in my test garden I put early this summer. 7 1/2" nickel, 7 1/2" dime, 8" quarter, & 7" penny. The AT Pro can be swept as slow as you want in trash. I think the GB needs a little faster sweep. The treshold is only for the all metal. The GB is lighter than the AT Pro. The GB hits harder on gold. With the 5x10 coil I'm taking mine in the water. The GB is more sensitive and will hit on every tiny little piece of foil. I used the AT Pro all summer and have only been out 3 times with GB. Overall I like the GB better.

The G2 is a better small gold unit than the AT Pro as the AT Pro lacks a true all metal mode. I currently have an AT Gold and Gold Bug Pro (same unit as the G2) and with both in all metal and with both sporting their small round coils the performance is so close on a small gold nugget as to be nearly indistinguishable. The AT Gold is of course running at the same 19 kHz frequency as the Gold Bug Pro or G2. Your AT Pro is no slacker on small gold however, doing better than most. It is just for that real down and dirty small gold detecting a true all metal mode makes a real difference.

Have both like both, now with the smaller 5.5x8.5 coil on the ATP it seperates really, really well and feels really light now like the G2 and still gets good depth only maybe an inch or 2 less then the 11" stock coil. I also like the 3 tones in PRO mode. I think of the PRO as more of a regular detector than a jewelry machine. The ATPRO is 15khz the ATGOLD is 18khz and the G2 is 19KHZ. They should all be really close on the lower conductive targets like nickels and gold as there pretty close khz wise. But I heard the G2 like said on here hits hard on gold and I read where Teknetics tuned the G2 a little better for silver also. I like how the G2 is VCO in discrimination mode so surface hits are extremely quick sounding and deeper ones the ramp up and back down on the VCO is longer and the deeper the object the more so to a point so that helps to tell depth of a target and it's stable and very quiet even at full sensitivity. I Like how it feels in my hand and has a nice big screen for older eyes to see and even with the stock 11" dd it seperates like crazy and you barely have to wiggle it for readings on close targets. I like that the ATPRO is waterproof and that is why I got it last winter mainly for misty light rainy days so I could still hunt if I wanted to and water hunting too if I wanted to.

This fall I got an Omega8000 to try for coin hunting also to try after using the ATPRO (and my ETRAC of last year) and that is why I also got the G2 later on from Bart on here after talking some more and reading some more about it and the quickness of the dual processors it has. I really like hunting with all of them and I will keep both my ATPRO and G2 as I like having the variety of choice for detecting. Hard for me to say which between those 2 is better I guess it depends on what your MAINLY looking to hunt for or where.

Hows the omega vs ATP? More depth on high conductors? Thinking of adding the omega just not sure how much to expect in terms of a gain.
