Went to the beach today I was using my new xp deus and I let my friend use my g2 with the ultimate coil. When he was eating lunch I tried the g2 in the wet sand and wow it was awesome. It ground balanced at 00 and I put it in disc at 40 and while detecting it was completely silent not a peep in and out of the water. And my sensitivity was set to 99. At first I thought something was wrong until I started getting hits and digging coins. And they weren't surface finds some up to 10" I was absolutely amazed and I didn't want to go back to using the deus but I did. I have no ideas why it was doing so good but I liked it. It might have been the ultimate coil helping but I have never used the g2 in the wet sand before but it works great for a vlf.

Was that a freshwater or saltwater beach?

It was a salt water beach. Thats why I was amazed.

I had a similar experience with the GBPro that had the 10" elliptical on it. Very impressed.

Same thing with the 5" coil...great performance in salt, brackish and fresh water. If waves are strong and the bottom is being stirred up, you may encounter some short and sharp erratic signals, not hard for your ears to become accustomed to that and tune it out without having to lower the sens.

When we were developing the GB/G2, salt water beach hunting almost wasn't even on our radar screen, but we put stuff in there to make sure that at least it would be possible.

Since the thing was introduced, there have been so many positive reports regarding its good performance on saltwater beaches that we've been forced to rethink what we did-- why is it working so well? [I'll take this any day over the more common "why didn't this work out as well as we hoped?"]

At this point, we pretty much know why it came out so well (to even our initial surprise), and have no qualms about saying that the GB/G2 are probably the best single-frequency saltwater beach machines ever made. Just remember to keep that plastic baggie over its head to keep the salt spray away from the guts.

I got the xp deus to be my all around machine cause it is supposed to be good in the wet to. And it does ok . I never even thought to try out my g2 wich I should have cause the deus cant even come close to how well the g2 did. There are ways to set up the deus but the g2 you set up like you normally would and it works great. Just goes to show you that spending the big bucks isn't always nessacery. The g2 is a definite keeper. I have had alot of high dollar machines come and go in the last 2 years since I started detecting but the g2 has always been there and It will be the last to go and it probably never will. Teknetics and Dave J hit a home run with this machine. My hats off to you Dave.

I agree. The G2 was the very first detector that I bought to do a certain thing and it did it and more. First one that I have ever seen that lived up to and exceeded the hype. Congrats on a winner.

So is it safe to say that your friend is just an awesome guy? I read your last post where mentioned he was the one that taught you everything you know about detecting.
