G2/Ultimate 13" coil field test...I'm a believer!

Hello guys, finally got out to give the 13" Ultimate Detech coil on the G2 a good field test. For those who don't know me or have not read my posts on here, I have been relic hunting for 20 years but detecting for over 30. I have never loved a detector more than the G2 with one exception....depth. I have found in over 400 hours of use with it over the past 2+ years, that in my ground it maxes out in disc mode at about the 8-9" range, with good targets (typically 58 cal minie balls) in the fringe or extreme limit of detection range (the 8-9" mark)being very very soft barely audible signals that alternate between ferrous and mixed non-ferrous numbers.
I have just recently obtained a used 13" Detech Ultimate coil in the hope that it can give me more depth in pastures and farm fields. The first thing I did when I first got the coil was air test it against the stock 11" coil. To my surprise there was no difference, also when ground balancing I found it would ground balance 20 to 25 numbers lower than the stock coil. Undeterred I traveled south to east Tenn this weekend to put it through my ultimate field test.... a Union CW campsite that I my father and my hunting partner have pounded for the past 3 years with the following detectors:
Teknetics G2
Teknetics T2 SE
Tesoro Vaquero and Tejon
Garrett Ace 350
Fisher CZ-5
Our last 5-6 hunts there we were lucky to find a single bullet per hunt....but I knew there were deep relics to be found. Although relics have been found all over the 10 acre site, I concentrated on two spots in particular, both have had the highest concentration of relics and both are near a fence line allowing precise location or reference to sweeps and finds location. At first I was digging almost all signals that I would dig with the stock coil, in particular focusing on the "fringe type" signals alternating between ferrous and non-ferrous...all of these proved to be small pieces of iron deep (one was the head of a square nail with about 1/8" of the shaft that was about 6" down!)...my first observation...this coil has great ability to see very small targets! As good as the stock coil.
My first good target was a no brainer....solid volume and solid lock-on numbers...nice "warm" audio. The target was a piece of melted lead the size of a half dollar at a solid 10" down (see pics below). All the good sounding targets I dug very slowly and carefully so that I could get an accurate measurement of the depth. With the tip of my Lesche digger touching the melted lead, the surface of the ground went over half way up the handle of the digger....10". The audio was quite pronounced and I know I would have still heard that target another 1" to likely 2" down. The rest of my hunt of 3 hours was the same with all good targets deep, but audio on all solid and no brainer, not whispers. Shallowest was a eagle cuff button at 5" in very dry dirt, with all other good targets ranging from 7-10" down. My total take of keepers was 15 relics in 3 hours. Again guys these are not relics that were missed by the G2 with stock coil or the other detectors, as we have been over this ground many many times...they were just not seen! I have no doubt that when I go back and dig the now new fringe signals that I will get relics at the 10-11" mark, possibly deeper when the ground becomes wet. The Ultimate coil turns the G2 into a monster! I feel that in the ground that I hunt in it elevates the G2's depth up near the level of a F75 LTD, but without the noise! I'm a believer!!!

Thanks for the report. I have not heard any thing negative about that 13 inch Detect coil regardless of what machine it has been on. I also have a G-2 but like you said 8 or 9 inchs is about it. I live in east TN. and lots of places targets will be well beyond 9 inchs so that is good news about the D coil especially when you can run the G-2 wide open. Thanks again. Just windering where you picked up your coil at I tried big boys but they don't sell them. Thanks
This is what I found on my last two hunts.

Ultimate coils are only sold through Kellyco in the US! The manufacturer they import them from is having a heck of a time keeping up with orders so sometimes they're back ordered.

they state that Kellyco and AccurateLocators sell their coils in the Americas, Canada and Mexico

detech coils are made in bulgaria

Hey, that's good info. Up until recently there was only one dealer in the US!

Very good report.

Could it be possible that the stock coil would be able to see some targets that the ultimate coil would not if the roles were reversed.
A couple of ways to know would be to run them side by side in this case on two G2's on previously undetected land and compare the signals to see which picks up what of each setups signals.
Or cover the same section of previously undetected land first with the ultimate and then with the stock coil to see if the ultimate has missed some targets that the stock coil will hit on.
Even then would the same results be achieved for someone else if the ground and soil conditions were different.
I have always considered testing as difficult to be absolute about as there are a number of variables.
I often just go for a good setup which I am happy with within myself.
This will involve the balance of the machine and coil, the tones that each coil produces etc.
I usually detect the land with a good coil that will not necessarily be the deepest and then go over the same land with the deeper coil.
The less deeper of the two usually gives better separation on some of the targets and once these are well and truly cleared out then the bigger coil works better because it has less signals being inputted improving it's previous separation problem thus helping it pick out the deeper finds.
This makes for a far more enjoyable detecting "experience" that keeps the interest going on any patch of land for much longer.

I can say the 13 IS DEEPER THAN STOCK 11 inch coil.
I cant say how much deep as the one simple test was with
a nickle buried at 10,5 inches in damp sand .
The 13 could hit it the 11 could not.

From my experience with it so far, it seems about a 2" difference. I hope to be able to give it a good 2-3 day workout including going back to the same site next wee. Bill

Try the 12"/15" SEF coil. It'll wake that detector up. :teknetics::fisher:

i have not seen thin for the g2 who has them

will gold bug coil work on the g2

With reference to the GB Pro and G2, they're essentially the same machines, just different packaging and ergonomics. Coils are interchangeable.

Your post got me all fired up to get the 13" Ultimate coil for my G2. I e-mailed Kellyco to see if they had any in stock. They E-mailed back and said they didn't have an Ultimate coil for the G2. What's up?

Kelly Co has the 13 for the Omega.
I put it on my GB and works great , ID , Depth and PP are right on
Sales would not tell you this because it s not listed . .
