G2 review

Hey Gang,
Sorry I

Nice article Ken, yes Bart is one of the best dealers that you can have in this hobby. I've been using the 5 x 10 coil which seems to be a little more sensitive than the 11", and also seems to read the same target a point or two higher, say 84 or 85 on a dime that usually reads 83. The one gold ring that I did find rang up at 66, and I wonder how many smaller ones I have missed in the 50"s. Pin pointing also a bit different on the 5 x 10, I usually back off a target and dig at the tip.

I'm writing another review with the 5 inch coil. Thanks for the input on the 5 x 10, I got to get one....

I use my G2 for relic hunting and it is unreal in heavy iron sites. I recently tested different coils (11, 10x5, 5) in my test garden that has various relics buried. The soil is sand and the test was purely for depth purposes so no nails were introduced. I already know what it will do in nails. I have a Union cuff button at 9 inches and with the 11 inch coil I received a very faint whisper but the numbers were dead on accurate for that target. I have a 3 ringer at 11 inches and the results were the same. The 10x5 and 5 inch coil gave zero indication that there was a target there. My settings were sens maxed out and discrim at 40. I should have tested it in all metal but didn't. I will this week. By the way....all metal is the way to overcome EMI so if you find yourself around power lines swap to all metal. I mostly hunt by sound and not so much by the numbers. If you get a barely audible signal but the numbers are good and repeat....dig it!

I have used the 10x5 in heavy iron sites and it does have better depth than the 5 inch coil and separates just as well IMO. In a heavy iron site I would choose the 10x5 over any other coil. I'm a T2SE user and in boost mode it will sound off on small targets at depths far greater than the G2 will, but is not as good as the G2 in heavy iron sites. IMO the G2 compliments the T2SE and is my "go to" machine for heavy iron sites that I suspect still have relics hidden amongst the nails, etc.

Monte,

You are correct, I just telling my side using an 11 inch coil. Now as far as the 5 inch coil.... I love that coil in those hard to reach places where target are ringing in every sweep. But when the area is a football field and in the woods, targets get less and less the 11 inch make sense. And, just to watch the VDI on sliver targets the number will rise 1 or 2 then drop back. Also, I listen for the round tones, what I am talking about is, the target kind of beeps in the middle of something round. Now I'm not talking about the squeak all the way around the target. And also coil control need to be talked about, more than target VDI. I see a lot of people talk about their VID's numbers and depth. But knowing where and how to use your coil is a wonderful thing. Would you not say ?

This is one heck of a good informative post for the Teknetics G2! Thanks for starting it Ken! This is one of my favorite machines!
