I fully agree with both BH_Landstar (great coin and jewelry machine) and Bart, especially where he said this:
The Coil on the G2 is much more razor like and separates MUCH better that the explorers. Better than the new pro coil too.
I fully agree; Bart nailed it with that info. I got used to the 11" DD on my Gold Bug Pro (first time I had used a DD coil), and just assumed all were that "sharp," i.e. HOT down the center line, but not around the edges. I now have an Explorer SE Pro (with the 11" DD Pro Coil) that I use, also. Now, I LOVE the SE Pro. I believe they (the two "Pros" as I call them!
) complement each other well (GB Pro super fast, super light, great in trash, GREAT on small gold, and very good on coins; Explorer just a pure KILLER of silver). BUT -- I am NOT that thrilled with the Pro Coil, in terms of its "sharpness" / "separation," just as Bart says. The SE Pro/Pro Coil is MUCH harder to pinpoint with, IMO, with this coil much hotter around the edges of the coil than the Gold Bug coils are. Probably why it's harder to pinpoint. The GB Pro 11" DD simply seems to have a much "narrower" footprint, with most of it's transmit and receive action happening down the center line of the coil. If I could stick a Fisher DD on my Explorer, I'd be one happy camper!
Anyway, I know that doesn't specifically answer your question; my best answer is that I think you would find a place in your arsenal for the GB Pro, ALONG WITH your Explorer. That's how I had intended it, and it seems to be working out just that way. I choose one or the other depending upon site conditions, the time I have available, and what I am hunting for that day. If I am totally focused, specifically, on sniping deep silver, I go with the Minelab. Not that the Bug couldn't see it, but you can set up the Minelab to cherry pick deep silver in a more effective way IMO. On the other hand, if I want to just cherry pick ANY type of coins, or if I want to hunt jewelry, OR if I only have a short time to hunt and want to cover some ground quickly, I'm grabbing the Gold Bug Pro.
Hope this helps a bit...
