G2 question...

Has it been absolutely established that the G2 and the new goldbugs are exactly the same machines inside?
If they both do EXACTLY the same thing then I'm going with the G2 for the rod configuration.
Any Minelab Explorer users on here compared the performance coil for coil with the G2?
And speaking of coils, it seems like an intermediate coil is needed. I mean, 5" to 11" is quite a jump. Maybe a 7.5" or 8" coil would really be helpful or is there one already?
Neal

Im all for a larger coil making the 11dd the mid size.

Neal,
Yes they are the EXACT same minus the shaft. I have owned all the explorers and now own an ETRAC. The Coil on the G2 is much more razor like and separates MUCH better that the explorers. Better than the new pro coil too. With the stock 11" coil and a 5" DD coil the G2 is a VERY deadly machine. I dont see a need for a intermediate coil myself. Holler at me if you have any questions or need pricing. Bart

The G2 and the Gold Bug Pro are one and the same unit.

Either one with the 5" or 11" DD coils is a killer unit.

Oh, and the Gold Bug Pro / G2 are the perfect coin / jewelry hunters (for me anyway, and I'm still learning the Gold Bug Pro) on land.

No other detector has hit coins or gold and silver for me like the GBP has.

I use the Teknetics 8" coil on my Gold Bug. Works great. ( Tek. "Greek" series coils will interchange with the gold bug).

I fully agree with both BH_Landstar (great coin and jewelry machine) and Bart, especially where he said this:
The Coil on the G2 is much more razor like and separates MUCH better that the explorers. Better than the new pro coil too.

I fully agree; Bart nailed it with that info. I got used to the 11" DD on my Gold Bug Pro (first time I had used a DD coil), and just assumed all were that "sharp," i.e. HOT down the center line, but not around the edges. I now have an Explorer SE Pro (with the 11" DD Pro Coil) that I use, also. Now, I LOVE the SE Pro. I believe they (the two "Pros" as I call them! :) ) complement each other well (GB Pro super fast, super light, great in trash, GREAT on small gold, and very good on coins; Explorer just a pure KILLER of silver). BUT -- I am NOT that thrilled with the Pro Coil, in terms of its "sharpness" / "separation," just as Bart says. The SE Pro/Pro Coil is MUCH harder to pinpoint with, IMO, with this coil much hotter around the edges of the coil than the Gold Bug coils are. Probably why it's harder to pinpoint. The GB Pro 11" DD simply seems to have a much "narrower" footprint, with most of it's transmit and receive action happening down the center line of the coil. If I could stick a Fisher DD on my Explorer, I'd be one happy camper!

Anyway, I know that doesn't specifically answer your question; my best answer is that I think you would find a place in your arsenal for the GB Pro, ALONG WITH your Explorer. That's how I had intended it, and it seems to be working out just that way. I choose one or the other depending upon site conditions, the time I have available, and what I am hunting for that day. If I am totally focused, specifically, on sniping deep silver, I go with the Minelab. Not that the Bug couldn't see it, but you can set up the Minelab to cherry pick deep silver in a more effective way IMO. On the other hand, if I want to just cherry pick ANY type of coins, or if I want to hunt jewelry, OR if I only have a short time to hunt and want to cover some ground quickly, I'm grabbing the Gold Bug Pro.

Hope this helps a bit...

Steve

OK, thinking out loud here.....
Anybody think this detector would work great using a Tesoro clean sweep style coil ?

The F75 coil will NOT work.

The clean sweap coils ...... hmmm ! I'd say no on that too.

I said clean sweep style...I have no clue how to convert or tune a coil but whomever makes coils maybe a coil similar in size and shape for them GB's
